January 2025
Message from the Principal
Greetings SMS Families,
As we begin 2025, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a happy, healthy, and successful year ahead. I hope each of you had a peaceful holiday season filled with quality time with loved ones. The start of a new year can bring its own set of challenges, but please know that the entire SMS community is here to support you. If you or your child need assistance, our Student Services team is always available to help.
Reflecting on the first semester, we are incredibly proud of the progress and accomplishments of our students and staff. It's been a time of growth, resilience, and dedication, and we look forward to even more achievements in the months to come. As we near the end of the semester on January 24th, please be sure to check for your child's report card, which will be available shortly before our February break.
A quick reminder: we offer after-school academic support every Tuesday and Thursday to help students excel and reach their full potential. These sessions are a great opportunity for extra assistance, whether your child needs help with specific subjects or just some additional practice.
As we continue through the year, let’s stay focused on supporting each student's success and well-being. Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we can make 2025 an amazing year for all of our students!
Sincerely,
Dr. Fisher

Two Students Win Healthy Choices Poster Contest
Each year WNY United holds the Healthy Choices Art & Poetry contest for students in kindergarten through 12th grade to showcase their healthy choices and to lead a drug and alcohol free life. Two SGI 7th graders' work was chosen by the judges on a scale that included Creativity, Clarity of the Message and Craftsmanship and reflected the theme “Healthy Choices Make the Best Me." Lily McCrory won 2nd place and Skylar Kowalczyk received an honorable mention in the 6th-8th grade art contest. The winning entries are on display at the Hamburg Fairgrounds Festival of Lights for the month of December. You can see their artwork on display in the NYS Police Building. The artwork will also be showcased on the WNY United website and social media platforms.
Giving Back
Middle school students showed their support for the Student Council’s annual food drive to benefit the Springville Food Pantry! Seventh grade won the friendly competition and 8th-grade Student Council members were able to deliver over 750 items to the pantry to stock the shelves for the holiday season. Thank you to everyone who donated to support our community!
