Emmaus Catholic Primary School
Term 2 Week 4 Newsletter: Friday 15 May 2026
Dear Parents and Guardians
THE IMPORTANCE OF READING SCHOOL NOTICES
Our school works hard to keep families informed about important events, classroom activities, appointments, excursions, and whole-school updates. Notices are regularly sent home by both the Administration team and classroom teachers to ensure parents and carers have the information they need to support their children and stay connected with school life.
Recently, we have noticed an increasing number of situations where important information has been missed. This has included some parents asking questions about details already provided in notices, missing scheduled appointments with class teachers, or attending events that were advertised for previous years rather than the current school year.
We understand that family life is busy and that notices can sometimes be overlooked amongst the many demands of daily routines. However, taking a few moments to read all communication sent home can help avoid confusion and ensure families are well prepared for upcoming events and commitments.
School notices often contain important information such as:
- excursion dates and permission requirements
- parent-teacher interview times
- changes to school routines or events
- classroom activities and special celebrations
- reminders about uniforms, fees, or deadlines
We encourage all families to regularly check school bags, emails, online communication platforms, and newsletters so that important updates are not missed. Creating a routine of reviewing school communication each day or week can make a significant difference.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in helping our school community run smoothly and ensuring every child has the best possible experience at school.
CROSS COUNTRY
Today, our Interschool Cross Country Team proudly represented our school at the Cross Country Carnival held at Good Shepherd in Kelmscott. All students are to be congratulated on their outstanding performances, determination, and positive attitudes throughout the day.
The children demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, encouraging one another and competing with respect and enthusiasm. Their commitment and hard work over the past two weeks of training have certainly paid off, with every student giving their very best effort.
We are extremely proud of the way our team represented the school, both on and off the course. Well done to all students involved on a fantastic achievement!
Our overall placing this year was 2nd from 9 school competing!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Midvale Hub is a community support hub that helps children, families, and community members access a range of services in one welcoming place. They offer support with education, parenting, wellbeing, counselling, family assistance, food relief, community programs, and connections to local services. The Hub works closely with schools and organisations to help families feel supported, connected, and empowered within their community.
Emmaus is very happy to be forming a closer partnership with the Hub and we look forward to working together on some upcoming parent workshops and opportunities that will support our families and wider school community. Please click the link below for further info on parent workshops.

YEAR 5 NEWS
Our Year 5 students have been learning to play NUMERO, a fun and engaging maths card game that strengthens number sense and mental maths skills. Through friendly competition and teamwork, students have been practising addition, subtraction, multiplication and division while developing strategic thinking and confidence with numbers. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm, problem solving skills and mathematical conversations grow during game play.

SPOTLIGHT ON SUSTAINABILITY
TERM 2 SCIENCE
It has been a WONDER-full start to Term 2 Science! The term began with a whole school introduction to our Chemical Science unit. We explored cornflour, an everyday pantry item, and discovered how it can behave in unique ways when mixed with different liquids. When combined with water, it creates a mixture called OOBLECK ā a non-Newtonian liquid that acts like a solid when force is applied; but flows like a liquid when the force is removed. We even watched a video of a bike being ridden across a giant pool of Oobleck ā UNBELIEVABLE!
From a solid-liquid mixture, we moved on to a liquid-liquid mixture by exploring the simple combination of dishwashing soap and water. BUBBLES! From PK to Year 5, students across the school enjoyed experimenting with bubbles while developing their āobservationā language as they discussed what they could see and feel.
At the end of each session, classes also explored the idea of āI Wonderā questions by suggesting hypotheses and ideas for future investigations, including:
- āI wonder if we could change the shape of a bubble?ā
- āI wonder if we could make single-coloured bubbles instead of seeing the rainbow reflection?ā
- āI wonder what would happen if we added sugar syrup to the bubble mixture?ā
- āI wonder if we could make bubbles using body wash instead of dishwashing soap?ā

Please ensure all outstanding enrolment forms are returned promptly as only enrolled students will be seen. Wellbeing in 3K
The whole school focus for Emmausā Wellbeing Program in Term 2 is Sleep and Relaxation. In Kindy, we have been learning how to keep our bodies still, during our relaxation time. We have our own yoga mat and cushion, with the option of a cuddly toy from home, and we listen to relaxing music, with the lights turned off. This helps us to learn how to lie quietly and still, in order for our bodies and minds to relax and recharge.
Wellbeing in Year 2
This term, we have integrated our Wellness focus, Sleep and Relaxation, with our literacy theme of Fairy Tales. Each day, students spend 15 minutes practising relaxation skills while listening to the teacher read a variety of Grimm Brothers fairy tales. Students may choose how they would like to relax, whether lying down, sitting at their desks, or sitting on the mat.
Before reading, we discuss different ways to relax and why relaxation is important. At the beginning of the term, we learnt a range of relaxation strategies, such as deep breathing, which students now apply during our Reading Relaxation time. During this time, students relax and enjoy the stories with minimal distractions, focusing on being calm and present in the moment. The class thoroughly enjoys their daily Reading Relaxation sessions.
