Week of 11/10/25 - 11/15/25

Dr. Sitton's Snippets
11/10/25 - 11/15/25
Hello Oak Ridge Families, Students, Faculty, and Community Members:
We're kicking off this edition with some exciting news! We had an amazing send-off on Friday for our XC Boys Team and Aliyah as they headed to Columbia for the State Class I XC Meet! The boys will be running Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and Aliyah will run at 9:45 a.m. Coach Ward will post the results in the Remind messages, so stay tuned!
At our Send-Off pep assembly, we also announced a huge congratulations to Molly Hahs for placing 1st in the District Speech Meet at Bloomfield for FFA! We are all so proud of your grit and determination!
As we head into the week, we will be celebrating and honoring our Veterans on Tuesday, November 11th, starting with breakfast from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church. We will then have our Veterans Assembly in the Old Gym from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
In this brief, we are also proud to share news of our students' latest achievements while providing critical updates concerning upcoming scheduling, review of dress code and cell phone school policy (there has been an uptick in discipline/warnings), and immediate changes to campus traffic and parking. Please read all sections carefully, as some changes are effective immediately. We appreciate your patience as we work to maintain and improve our facilities and school operations.
🚧 Immediate Campus Traffic and Parking Changes
Due to construction, there are immediate, mandatory changes to our campus traffic flow and parking: (Please check the attached map for visual guidance).
Student Parking Moved: All students must now park in the Gravel Lot/West Side of the Gymnasium (check the attached map for the 'pink X' area). This is effective immediately.
Mandatory Student Exit Rule: All student drivers must wait for the Parent Pick-Up line to conclude before exiting the new student parking area. This is a critical safety rule that will be strictly enforced by staff.
New Parent Pick-Up Route: Parents picking up high school students will now use the green route and pick up students at the gym entrance. The bus lane is closed to all through traffic.
Timeline: We anticipate the construction project will be completed in early November.
📝 Policy on Assignments Missed Due to School-Sponsored Events
Please note the following clarification on our assignment policy, which is especially relevant to students traveling for events like the upcoming FCCLA and FFA trips:
Assignments for all scheduled, school-sponsored absences (trips, events, etc.) are due immediately upon the student’s return to class.
Because these absences are known in advance, they will not receive the typical grace period afforded to absences due to unexpected illness or other circumstances. Students must complete all assigned work before they return.

STARTING OCTOBER 24 -- Parking Lot Replacement Traffic Routing
EVERYONE PLEASE READ
The Oak Ridge School District will be replacing the elementary parking lot (marked with a red X) beginning October 24th. The parking lot will be closed to the public beginning October 24th. Parents that need to pick up students in the high school pick up line will now use the green route and pick up students at the gym entrance marked with a yellow X. Elementary students that meet a parent on the high school side will be escorted to the gym for pick up. The bus lane is closed to through traffic during this time as well. The student parking lot will be moved to the West side of the gymnasium marked with a pink X. Student drivers must wait on the parent pick up line to finish before exiting the student parking lot. Student drivers will still enter the building through the cafeteria entrance. Morning drop off at the cafeteria entrance will not be affected. Morning and afternoon elementary pick up and drop off in the preschool lot will not be affected. Parents that need to check elementary students in/out during the school day will need to go to the high school window and we will escort you elementary student to the high school entrance for pick up/drop off. We hope to have this project completed in early November. Thank you for your patience as we continue to maintain district facilities.

RE: reminders from the nurse
Please make sure you have all of the required information provided to the nurse’s office by the first day of school. Below is the information you will need to provide:
Updated health information. This is completed with student’s online enrollment. Please include any new medication/diagnosis information.
Proof of immunizations that are required by the state of Missouri. Students who have already submitted this information do not need to submit it again UNLESS your student is entering kindergarten, 8th or 12th grade. All kindergarten students should receive immunizations after their 4th birthday and will need to have proof of this submitted to the nurse office. All 8th grade students should receive a TDap and meningitis immunization which should have been administered after the age of 10. All 12th grade students should receive an additional meningitis shot which should have been administered after the age of 16. Appropriate exemptions are accepted and should be submitted if applicable.
The only prescription medication that students are allowed to carry with them are emergency medications such a inhaler or Epi-pen which must meet the following requirements: prescription is on file in the nurse office, self administration form signed by both student and parent, and the medication is labeled with student’s name.
Any medication that you wish to be administered by the school nurse requires you to fill out a Medication Request Form. Medication should only be brought to school by a parent. Student’s are not allowed to carry medication unless authorized by a physician and nurse.
If your child has Asthma, Diabetes, Allergies or seizures an action plan must be filled out and signed. Action plans are available in the nurse office. If your child has a food allergy and requires substitution in the cafeteria, they will need to fill out a Medical Statement for Student Requiring Special Meals form.
A few reminders from the nurse for this year:
A fever is considered over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. If your student has a fever they will be sent home. Students cannot return to school until they are fever free (below 100) without the use of tylenol or ibuprofen for 24 hours.
If your child requires the use of OTC medications more than a few times, you may be asked to send in a bottle with their name written on it.
Thank you for your help and cooperation. You are welcome to email updated information as well as call with any questions you may have.

- If you take medications please make sure they are kept in the nurse's office. No students should be carrying medications on them at anytime at school!
