Dryden Splash | August 9, 2026

Dear Dryden Families,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year!
I hope your summer has been filled with sunshine, laughter, and time with the people who matter most. One of my favorite parts of summer was simply running into so many of our Dryden Dolphins around Arlington Heights. Whether it was at the Fourth of July Parade, Frontier Days, or Night in the Heights, every time one of our students spotted me, waved, or came over to say hello, it absolutely made my day. Those moments are a wonderful reminder that Dryden is so much more than a school. It's a community, and I'm grateful to be part of it with all of you.
As someone who lives here in Arlington Heights, I spent much of my summer doing many of the same things you were doing with your families. It brought back so many memories of summers with my own daughter, who I still can't believe is now 20 years old, and will turn 21 in September! This summer she worked with Illinois State Representative of the 54th District, Mary Beth Canty's office before she will head back to college over Labor Day weekend.
People often say, "The days are long, but the years are short," and I have found that to be incredibly true. It feels like just yesterday I was taking my daughter to community events around Arlington Heights, and now she's getting ready to head back to college. Somewhere along the way, those little moments became cherished memories.
As parents, it's easy to get caught up in busy schedules, carpools, homework, and everything else that comes with raising children. But looking back, I can honestly say those years go by much faster than we realize. So as you enjoy these last days of summer, I hope you're able to slow down just a bit, soak up the conversations, the laughs, and even the ordinary moments. Before you know it, they'll be memories you'll treasure.
In just a week and a half, our hallways will once again be filled with smiling faces, excited conversations, and the energy that only a new school year can bring. Every school year is special, but this one is especially meaningful because it's this year, the one we'll experience together. Let's make the most of it.
I truly can't wait to welcome our Dolphins back and begin another incredible year together.
Please take a few minutes to read this week's Splash for important updates and everything you'll need to help your family start the school year off on the right foot.
See you soon!
Jessica Martinsen
Principal
Reminder: No Parking in the Southminster Church's Parking Lot
This is an important reminder that the parking lot at Southminster Presbyterian Church is private property and is not available for use by Dryden or District families at any time during the school day, including arrival and dismissal. Parents are not permitted to enter or use the church parking lot.
We ask for your full cooperation in adhering to this restriction. Please plan ahead by utilizing street parking or arranging carpools. Respecting this boundary is essential to maintaining positive relationships with our neighbors and ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and community.
We are grateful to Southminster Presbyterian Church for their generosity in allowing use of their parking lot after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and at any time on weekends.
Thank you for your attention to and cooperation with this matter.
