DIFFERENT LOCATION

July only, at Country Day School

For one month only, we will meet in the Dining Pavilion at Country Day School

Address is 4200 Country Day Lane, which is just north of the intersection of Bryant Irvin and Southwest Blvd/US 183.

Directions once you enter Fort Worth Country Day:

Hi all,

We will be meeting at Fort Worth Country Day this month. (Address is 4200 Country Day Lane, which is just north of the intersection of Bryant Irvin and Southwest Blvd/US 183.) Here are the basic instructions (and you can see the map attached).

You will enter at the gate off of Bryant Irvin Rd (there is a Valero across the street). At the gate you will tell the security officer that you are attending the FWQG meeting that is being held in the dining pavilion. Once you are on campus you will go past the pond (first stop sign) and then at the second stop sign you will turn right and follow that into the parking lot E. Once in the parking lot you will see the cafeteria in plain sight. I will put up a couple of signs, but it should be pretty easy. If you have any problems, call me: 817-721-0500.

Molly

We will not have kitchen access, so you should bring your own beverage and snack. We can put out some finger food snacks, but we will not have cups, plates, or napkins.

Board Meetings Board Meetings

Board Meetings are the first Wednesday of the Month.

The location for meetings for this year will be at Lynda's house or via Zoom.

If you have something that needs to be brought to the attention of the Board, or you would like to discuss the issue in person, please contact a Board Member.

Board Meetings are open to all but only board members can vote at the meetings.

Yippee, we found a place to meet in July (thanks to Molly!). Since the whole thing was up in the air until the last minute, we had to be creative about the program. See full details in the Programs section, but I think you will enjoy it. I plan on bringing my Christmas Tree quilt. Everyone has probably seen it before, but I still love it. I think the most fun will be the challenge. Keep reading to learn more.

July is always busy, getting ready for the NTQF. Finishing touches on quilt entries and minis…sleeves…labels…and did you remember to look at some of the classes? I am sure there are still some volunteer spots open and we need great items for the booth. Remember to purchase your tickets at the July meeting. We have sold many of our ‘65’ this year, but we have 10 more, as of today.

And I am preparing to go on a month-long holiday to England, 2 weeks in the Cotswolds and 2 weeks in Greenwich. My husband and I are taking my parents. We look forward to spending some time with my son in Bristol. Haven’t seen him in a couple years!

And I had a great time at the Handiquilter Academy. I am already designing digital quilt patterns (and loving it).

We will be voting on the by-law changes at the beginning of the meeting. If you don't remember the proposed changes, the file is again attached at the end of this newsletter. We will try to set up Zoom so that you can vote even if you can’t make it to the meeting.

Hope to see you at the meeting. You do NOT want to miss the ‘freebie’.

July 15 Meeting -- Christmas in July

Please bring your Christmas and Patriotic quilts. We will have a big show. Have your write-up ready and bring it to the meeting with your quilt. We will also have a Christmas Challenge! Everyone will receive a bundle of Christmas fabric (thanks to Debbie Miles), and the challenge is to make a quilt for charity (JPS, NICU, etc.) and bring it to the December meeting. There will be prizes for those who bring a completed quilt to the December meeting!

September 16 Meeting

Danea Boquet, designer and creator of Fold&Sew quilting.

Fold&Sew is a family-owned business evolving the tradition of quilting in a fun, new, innovative way. With a patent-pending on its unique design, Fold&Sew quilts are unlike any other quilts you have encountered and are designed to be fast and simple to assemble. This makes Fold&Sew quilts ideal for novice quilters wanting to begin with a straightforward project, as well as veteran quilters wanting to create a handmade quilt in record time.

She will also be offering a workshop to teach her unique and fun quilt method.

NTQF 2025 NTQF 2025

Please sign up for your volunteer shifts both for the guild and for the Expo, if you are able. Our volunteer hours will be logged and compared with our size and with the others in other guilds.

If you have asked me to bring a quilt to/from the quilt show, I need you to coordinate with me when you will drop off your quilt to me and/or pick it up. Please make sure your quilt label is covered up and that you have a sleeve and all other pertinent information and pillow case with your name and number on it. Please look online at the rules, if you are uncertain about what you need to do before turning in your quilt.

Lastly, if you signed up on the sheet for carpooling to the show, we need to talk at the break during our meeting. Becky has the list, and we will finalize plans at our meeting.

Thank you. Molly (817) 721-0500

We still need two additional loaner quilts. These are used to fill any spaces left by ‘no shows’. They are turned in and returned just like the quilts in the show (including sleeves and a label), they need to be quilts that have NOT previously been in an NTQF show. There is no age limit, no judging, and they may/may not be used. They should be throw or bed-sized, but not extra large. If you would like to loan us a quilt, please contact Lynda McGee directly.

QUILT SHOW TICKETS

PRESALE PRICE IS $12.

Each guild is given an allotment of quilt show tickets to sell. Grace Stroud still has a few tickets that need to be sold. These tickets can be had for a lower price than on the days of the show, and the guild gets to keep all of the money we make selling tickets. So please plan to buy your tickets ahead of time. Buy extras for guests you’d like to invite. Help me to not turn in any unsold tickets.

We are now less than a month away from the North Texas Quilt Festival. Pat Wagers and I have been collecting handmade items for our kitchen themed booth at every meeting, and we have a very nice variety of items. Some are one of a kind and will be priced accordingly. Then there are multiples of smaller, less expensive items. I apologize for not having more pictures to share, but I’ve been taking boxes to Link’s and my rented storage facility, and did not take pictures.

If you have donations to turn in, please bring them to our meeting on July 15th. If you cannot make that meeting, please email or text me, and we will make arrangements for them to be dropped off or picked up. My phone number is 817-578-5952. Please leave a voicemail as my phone silences unknown callers. Email is gstroud49@gmail.com. Both Pat and I live off Hulen Street south of Hulen Mall.

Many thanks to all of you who have donated so many nice things. I hope we’ll make lots of money for our guild.

Pictures include a table runner, a rug, and placemats made by Pat with 2.5 inch fabric strips wrapped around 2.25 batting strips. There is a Christmas table runner, Christmas and Texas themed table toppers, and scrappy bottle caddies.

Start a BEE Start a BEE

One of the most fun parts of belonging to a Guild is getting to know other quilters. But, there aren’t many opportunities to actually get to SEW and learn from one another, except in a bee. Most of the guild bees have been around for many years and don’t have openings for many newcomers. If you want to get know more of your fellow members, start a new bee!

General Guidelines

  • Start with the people sitting near you at Guild or advertise in the bee section of the newsletter, or on the FB page.
  • A place to meet: dining room table, living room, playroom, apartment clubhouse, nearby church… You may want to rotate hosting among those with enough space.
  • Monthly meeting time for 1.5-4 hours. Some groups may also have periodic all-day project days or retreats.
  • Some groups organize around a common interest: appliqué, modern, art, charity projects, while some are based on proximity.
  • Start simply and see how the group’s dynamics play out through time. There are lots of activity ideas online.

Quilts Of Valor (QOV) Quilts Of Valor (QOV)

A total of seven Quilts of Valor were awarded in June, in three separate ceremonies. We currently have ten recipients on our list. A generous donation of backing fabric and a quilt kit was donated by Cindy Barnett at the June meeting. These kinds of donations greatly help us in our mission.

More block kits and quilt kits will be available for members to pick up at the July meeting. Thanks for all you do to make this program successful.

The first Wednesday in August (the 6th) the Guild will have a sew day at the American Legion, 8201 Old Benbrook Rd. Benbrook, TX 76126. Come on out and get to know some of the other members of the Guild. We will sew from 10-3. Bring your lunch or pick up something from one of the nearby fast-food restaurants. You can bring your own projects to work on or work on QOV blocks. It’s up to you. We would love to have you join us!

Bev Ramsey Fund Bev Ramsey Fund

Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, a teacher and a friend. We lost her way too early. The Bev Ramsey fund was set up to help those in need enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops.

Lovies Lovies

Lovies are used for preemie babies and their mother's so they can become familiar with each other's scent.

If you would like to make one (or 100) take two pieces of 14" square fabric - one cotton, and one flannel. Sew them right sides together, leaving a gap to turn. Turn, then topstitch around the entire piece.

Beverly Peterson collects them at Guild meetings to give to Harris Downtown for their NICU unit.

JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items) JPS NICU Quilts (and Cancer Care Center items)

Hope all of you are having a wonderful summer. Our number of quilt donations decreases in the summer months. Please keep JPS in mind as you plan new projects. They are grateful for our support.

Judi Janes and Carolyn Hughes

NICU Co-Chairpersons

-------

We encourage each member to read the information below just to refresh your memory about all the items you can make for JPS. It’s not just NICU quilts. They love to get baby quilts of all sizes. The NICU quilts can’t contain flannel, but other quilts can. A new item added to the list is a wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).

Our donations are really appreciated by JPS, the moms, and any other patients who receive them.

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Quilts

One of our community service projects is making NICU quilts for John Peter Smith Hospital. NICU quilts are 36” x 36” prewashed cotton quilts -NO Flannel. These are placed on the incubators in the intensive care unit and become the property of the baby/baby’s family. As some of you may know, the Tight Knots Quilt Bee makes NICU quilts each year as one of their community service projects. Maybe your bee would consider doing the same.

JPS has also requested other items for their patients:

Baby Items:

Receiving blankets and baby quilts – of all sizes

Layettes and Isolettes no smaller than 52”x56”

Cozy Cub Slipcover (tubular coverlet) See the link below for a sample of this item. 40 inches long

9 inches – circumference for small

11 inches – circumference for large

CozyCub–Dandle.LionMedical www.dandlelionmedical.com

Adult Items:

These items are mainly used for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the JPS cancer center and geriatric patients.

Bags to hang on walkers

Adult quilts or blankets (quilted or fleece)

Wheelchair quilt (approximately 36 x 48).

Ostomy bag covers

Small heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients to place under their arms after surgery

New request — bags that can be attached to walkers to hold keys, water bottles and other small items.

After working with Smore for a while, we have run into limitations of the formatting available to us. It is easiest if the information is sent either as text, JPG or JPEG pictures. We can attach PDF, Word, and XL documents to the newsletter, but they will appear as links and the reader must download them to their device to read them (easier if done from a laptop/desktop). DOC files that contain text only will be copied into the newsletter, but some of the formatting may be lost.

I would like to share pictures of show-and-tell items, but we must have someone willing to take pictures and email them to the guild email address.
