Teacher Appreciation Teacher Appreciation

May is Teacher Appreciation Month!

We appreciate you and All that you do for our students! We all remember our favorite teachers, those who taught us not only how to read and solve a math problem, but those special teachers who go the extra mile to teach valuable life lessons. Thank a teacher today!

Over the years I have had numerous teachers who have had great impact on my life. Mr. Armstrong was my 7th and 8th grade math teacher and he saw that I was struggling to keep up as the work advanced. He never belittled me nor did he make me feel as though I was struggling. Instead he gave me the practice that I needed to make sure that I could overcome those challenges by boosting my confidence a little at a time. These were the first scaffolds that I truly remember a teacher providing for me but he knew they were necessary if I was going to be successful with the more complex problems. Thank you Mr. Armstrong for ensuring that I was equipped!

Year End Closeout Checklist Year End Closeout Checklist

Please review the linked information below. School leaders will soon have this information from senior leadership, but because this is work that you actively support I wanted you to have the information at the beginning of this busy month. A copy will also be placed in the Master Templates folder.

RTI2A Year End Closeout Checklist

  • iReady Math Diagnostic

Universal Screening Reminders

  1. You will upload your URS Characteristics of Dyslexia Decision Making Crosswalk information to your school folder as a matter of record. It can be a scan of the individual student record sheets or you can use an Excel file.
  2. Encoding files are kept at the school as a matter of record.
  3. Written Expression scores must be entered into the Written Expression Power App. Remember to change the "Screening Completed" Field to Yes to capture the date stamp and then "Save & Close."
  4. Any Grade 3 student who has not yet completed the Pearson aimswebPlus Benchmark (ORF, VOC, RC), should be allowed to complete the missing subtest(s) so that they have a composite score between April 28-May 16 time as well. Our completion rate is quite high, but we have students who have not yet completed all three subtests.
  5. Because iReady Diagnostic is a universal screener, accommodation would have to be available to all students. Read aloud is not able to be used. Also, the accommodations such as text to speech features would have to be accessible for all students as a built-in feature within the platform.

Home Literacy Report Home Literacy Report

Schools will provide Home Literacy Reports, following administration of the universal reading screener, to K-3 students scoring below the 15th percentile and are recommended for 16th-40th percentile.

These reports provide reading proficiency guidance, reading activities to use at home, and information on specific reading interventions and supports being provided as outlined in TCA 49-1-905(d). Please be sure that the iReady Diagnostic Reports are sent home to parents along with this letter to inform parents of their student's scores. Keeping parents informed of their child's progress is extremely important when students are struggling.

Best Practices Best Practices

Document, Document, Document

If you are not already maintaining notes/dates of when key actions on your part to communicate with parents of Tier 2 or Tier 3 progress, please start. This along with the plan information in TNPulse, and the data team minutes are extremely important to me when inquiries are made.

Update the Tier 2 or 3 Plan in TNPulse

Don't forget to update the Tier 2 or 3 Plan in TNPulse when changes are made in instructional level or skill deficit area. Information must match between TNPulse, and aimsweb in order to see it reflect accurately in PowerBi. Remember it all starts with a plan!
