Happy February, JFK Families,

It's hard to believe it is February based on the warm temperatures and lack of snow cover, but here we are. Even with the lack of snow, the mornings continue to be cold so please send winter gear daily to ensure warmth during recess! Also, February and March tend to be snowy months, so I am sure we will end up with snow on the ground yet this year.

On February 4th, we celebrated the 100th day of school! This is a big celebration as our staff and students have thrived through the first 100 days of school and we look forward to next few months of our time together.

As it remains dark in the mornings, please pay special attention to traffic around JFK. As a reminder, students can be dropped off on 53rd Street, W 54th Street, W Mesa Pass, W Cheyenne Dr. and in our front loop. We have crossing guards stationed at crosswalks and staff member located at our exterior doors to let students in, starting at 7:20 a.m. The front loop can be very busy in the morning, and it is important to pull as far forward as possible when dropping students off. We ask that students exit the right side of the vehicle with their items and parents remain in the vehicle to keep traffic moving safely.

Thank you for partnering with us to make JFK a special place for our students. Please be on the lookout for information regarding our upcoming event in March, April, and finally in May with Field Day. We are excited to have families participate in these events.

Sincerely,

Mr. Wright, Principal

School Zone Safety School Zone Safety

Keeping Students and Staff SAFE is a Top Priority at JFK.

Please be sure to obey all traffic signs while in the school zone. Be sure you are slowed to 15 mph or slower when driving in the school zone. And please do NOT park in No Parking Zones as it blocks visibility in crosswalk areas. Thank you so much for your help and cooperation with this!

Learning to read is a critical skill for all children's success. One of our School Improvement Plan goals is to help every student improve their reading skills. During the school day, students practice reading fluently, decoding skills, and working to comprehend texts. One way that parents and guardians can help students improve their child's reading skills at home is by creating an at-home reading routine! Studies have consistently shown that reading at home with children has a positive impact on their literacy achievement. Papa Murphy's wants to support this mission as well by encouraging students to read books. When your child finishes reading a book, please complete the information listed on the flyer your child brings home. After 10 books are finished, you can turn the completed paper to your child’s teacher to receive the Free Mini Murph Pizza Kit Bookmark. This opportunity is optional for families to participate in this school year. Happy Reading!

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found is growing. If your student is missing a sweater, hat, gloves etc. please remind them to check their coat closet at school and check the lost and found area. At Parent Teacher Conferences on Feb 3 and 6, please take a look for any of your students missing items.
