LCS Sinking Fund Replacement Vote- May 5, 2026
On May 5th, voters in the Linden Community Schools (LCS) district will consider a Zero-Tax-Rate-Increase Sinking Fund Replacement that would continue funding for critical school facility needs without increasing the current tax rate.
The proposal includes a levy rate of 1.1760 mills for 10 years (2027–2036) and replaces the district’s existing sinking fund, which expires December 31, 2026. If approved, the measure would allow LCS to continue addressing facility, safety, and infrastructure needs while keeping instructional dollars focused on students and classrooms.
A sinking fund is a critical option Michigan school districts may use to fund projects and expenditures related to school facilities and equipment. For LCS, the sinking fund has provided a responsible, long-term approach to facility planning by dedicating funds annually for approved facility uses, protecting the community’s investment in school buildings and sites, and allowing necessary repairs and improvements to be completed without using classroom instructional dollars.
If approved by voters, the sinking fund replacement would support investments in school safety and security improvements, technology infrastructure and upgrades, facility and site improvements, and transportation needs, including maintenance of school vehicles. These investments help ensure school facilities remain safe, functional, and supportive of student learning while allowing the district to plan responsibly for the future.
“This sinking fund replacement allows Linden Community Schools to continue caring for our buildings, technology, and safety needs without increasing the tax rate for our community,” stated Superintendent Russ Ciesielski. “It is a practical and transparent way to protect our facilities, plan responsibly for the future, and ensure our educational dollars remain focused where they belong - supporting students and learning in the classroom.”
Election Day is Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Absentee ballots will be available beginning March 26, 2026. For voting information, visit www.michigan.gov/vote. Additional details about the Sinking Fund Replacement are available at www.lindenschools.org.
