November is a month for Gratitude & Reflection

Hello Hawks Families,

As we enter November, a month that reminds us to pause and reflect on all that we are thankful for, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible community that surrounds College Place High School. From our dedicated staff and supportive families to our community partners and neighbors, we are fortunate to have so many people who believe in our students and invest in their success. The generosity, encouragement, and commitment of our community make CPHS a special place to learn and grow. Thank you for being part of the Hawk family and for helping us live out our belief that a small school feel can lead to larger than life outcomes.

This edition of the Hawks Happenings monthly newsletter has information about our upcoming Dia de los Muertos celebration, Veterans Day plans, Five Star Hawks recognitions, reminders of Winter Sports, and plenty of partnership info to share.

Thank you, and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me at raguilar@cpps.org

Go Hawks!

Dia de los Muertos Dia de los Muertos

CPHS Latino Club hosts community celebration for Dia de los Muertos!

The CPHS student Latino Club and the Migrant Program are partnering for our Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration!

Día de los Muertos is a traditional Mexican holiday where families gather to honor, remember, and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Rather than a time of mourning, it is a joyful celebration of memory and community.

Latino Club will be hosting our community celebration at the Valle Lindo Community Building. We warmly invite all staff, parents, and students to bring a photo or a special item representing a loved one to display on our community altar (ofrenda). We would love to see you there!

Event Highlights:

  • Children's Activities: Wooden frame decorating, sugar skull paper crafts, and face painting.
  • Food & Treats: Thanks to our wonderful PAC moms, we will have champurrado (hot chocolate), delicious homemade food, and pan de muerto to share.
  • Catrin/Catrina contest for best costume.

Veterans Observance & ASVAB Exam Veterans Observance & ASVAB Exam

How can listening help us honor military service?

On Tuesday, November 10th we will be honoring our Veterans by focusing on our CP Way choice behavior of "Listen Well".

Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will be engaged in a classroom-led activity to hear from service members and learn about military service and civic responsibility.

At the same time, our 11th grade students will be taking the annual ASVAB exam in the Sager gym. If you'd like to have your student opt out of taking the ASVAB please just call the main office to let us know.

Reminder there is No School on Wednesday, November 11.

Skyward Family Auto Notifications

One of the best features of our current Skyward student information system is the ability for parents to get weekly automatic email notifications of their students grades. If you haven't configured your account to receive those, I strongly suggest it. Here is our video tutorial on how to set that up.

Teacher Shout-Out! Teacher Shout-Out!

This month's Instructional Shout-Out goes to Mr. Doug Morasch

This month's instructional shout-out goes out to Mr. Doug Morasch. Mr. Morasch teaches Band for both the middle and high school, and has also taken on our Pep Band at home football and basketball games. He recently has helped us create a Drum Line which has brought an added layer to our football games and student cheering section!

1. What do you love most about teaching band here at CPHS?

I get to make music with kids. And, if kids stick with me, I get to watch them grow up, from 6th grade all the way to graduation.

2. What is one thing you hope all students leave your class with?

Understanding that every person and their part is important. We have a responsibility to those around us to bring our best so the group's whole product is the best it can be. It's good to have fun, but it is more fun to be good.

Thank you Mr. Morasch for helping us develop future musicians and people who appreciate the fine arts!

Gesa Credit Union becomes sponsor to our K-12 fine arts programs!

We are appreciative of our Gesa Credit Union branch at the school, and our partnership has expanded recently to include a sponsorship and support for our Music and Theatre programs at CPHS! With a Gesa Powerhouse Theatre in our valley, this connection to fine arts was a natural fit and one that excited our teachers and students who also love the fine arts!

Communities in Schools Communities in Schools

This month's attendance focus: Friday Focus

While our Hawks tend to miss Tuesdays more than any other day of the week, finishing strong by coming to school EVRY DAY of the week is important. Our Communities in Schools focus around the Walla Walla valley this next month if "Friday Focus". The idea is to finish out the week strong and make sure our students get to school until the weekend hits.
