Important Dress Code Information

DRESS CODE -

Proper dress is required at all times. Shorts, skirts and dresses should be the appropriate and modest length. No midriff, tube or halter tops. Appropriate footwear (tennis shoes) should be worn on physical education day. Hats and caps should be worn outside the building unless approved by the teacher for a special occasion. Symbols, slogans or designs that tend to disrupt will not be permitted. Heelies are not permitted.

Preparing for winter...

As the weather begins to change and students begin wearing jackets, please be sure to label tags with students' name. This would be helpful for sweatshirts and hoodies as well. This will help us ensure that lost items are returned.

LUNCH VISITORS - a few reminders...

You are now welcome to visit our school to have lunch with your child. You will need your ID to check in at the front office. Students are only allowed to invite ONE other student to join them and their visitor. If weather permits, the couryard is a great option for lunch. There is also space at the back of the cafeteria if needed.

Submitting Parent Notes for Student Absences

We are offering a new way to submit parent notes this school year. You are allowed to submit five parent notes per year. Parent notes would be submitted for when your child is sick and you are not visiting the doctor. They are also accepted for berevement. You are also able to upload doctor's notes here as well. ANY absences should also be communicated with your child's teacher. Only five unexcused absences are allowed for the school year.

Thank you for your continued support with student learning. You can find our state standards in the link below.

State Standards

From the School Nurse: From the School Nurse:

Life Threatening Allergies at School:

We have 10 students that are allergic to NUTS here at HMES. Please refrain from sending in lunches and treats that contain nuts if possible. We do have a NUT FREE table in the cafeteria, but limiting the products brought into the school will be helpful in keeping all of our kiddos safe.

Vision and Hearing Mass Screening:

The SC Department of Education recommends and encourages mass vision and hearing screenings for certain grades to occur at school. Nurse Bailey will send a referral home if your child has been screened and needs to see a physician for a more detailed screening.

****K-1 students should have a change of clothing to keep in the classroom/bookbag. Accidents and spills happen often, and the health room closet does not always have extras.****

Medications at School:

All medicines must be brought to school by an adult. All prescription medications must have the district form signed by the physician and parent. All non-prescription medications must have a district form signed by the parent.

If you want your child to receive Tylenol or Ibuprofen while at school, please fill out the non-prescription medicine form and bring in the medicine.
