We are now approaching the end of what has been a very busy half-term, jam-packed with events and experiences for the whole community. It is so important that parents and carers come into the school regularly, so that we can build relationships, and it has been wonderful to see so many of you at our recent events.

From Sports Day and Enterprise to Parent Forum, FRED and our Class Assemblies, this term has truly showcased the hard work, creativity, and resilience of our entire school community. Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came along to support these events — your presence makes such a difference to the children.

There is still lots to come before the end of term, so please check the term dates, letters and the school calendar regularly so that you don't miss anything.

On 12th June, we came together to celebrate Portuguese Day, in honour of Portugal Day (Dia de Portugal, de Camões e das Comunidades Portuguesas) in true Stockwell style! To start of the event, we held our Portuguese assembly. Children from across the school shared information, songs and dances about Portugal and many other Portuguese-speaking nations, and it was a wonderful celebration of Portuguese heritage.

After the assembly, we came together to share food, listen to music and enjoy the sunshine — and, of course, the raffle! It was a lovely afternoon and a real celebration of our school community.

A huge thank you to Ms Peres, who worked so hard to make sure the children were ready for the assembly, and to Mrs Fraga and Mr Serra for all of their work behind the scenes. Thank you also to the parents and carers who came along to take part, and who so generously contributed to the event — we couldn't have done it without you.

This term, as always, we held not one but three Sports Days! Our KS2 children travelled to Brockwell Park for their event, while EYFS and KS1 enjoyed theirs on the school site, and our youngest children took part in their very own Sports Day in the Pre-School playground.

A huge thank you to Ms Angley and Mr Osman, who did a fantastic job of organising the KS2 and EYFS/KS1 events, and to Ms Rushna and the Pre-School team for putting on such a lovely event for our littlest learners.

The events were highly competitive but also hugely fun, with the children showing great determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. Congratulations to the Blue Kingfishers, who were crowned champions of the KS2 event, and to the Red Robins, who took the title for EYFS and KS1. All of the children should be very proud of the effort they put in.

Finally, thank you to all of the parents and carers who came along to cheer the children on — and a special mention to those brave enough to take part in the adult races! Your support and enthusiasm made the days extra special.

Our Summer Enterprise Marketplace was a huge success, with goods galore on offer — with ideas, and most of the design and manufacture, by the children! From tie-dyed clothes and keyrings to ice poles and popcorn goody bags, there was something for everyone, and the children did a wonderful job of designing, making and selling their products.

One of the very best things about Enterprise is that each year group gets to use their profits as they wish. Year 4 are off to Grove Garden Adventure Playground, Year 3 used their profits to reduce the cost of their trip to London Zoo, Year 1 headed off to Brighton, and Year 2 enjoyed a River Cruise. It is wonderful to see the children reaping the rewards of their own hard work!

Enterprise gives the children so much more than a fun day of buying and selling. They develop real entrepreneurial skills — planning, budgeting, working as a team and thinking creatively — and their delight in seeing their efforts pay off is a joy to behold. The children should be very proud of what they achieved.

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Marketplaces this year. We are already looking forward to next year!

Our class assemblies have been a real highlight of the term, and so much hard work has gone into each and every one. They are a wonderful way for the children to practise their oracy skills and develop the confidence to present to a large audience — skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

We have been treated to a fantastic range of topics this term. Year 4 took us back in time to the Industrial Revolution, Year 3 transported us to the rainforests, and Year 2 taught us all how to sing Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Japanese! Year 1 whisked us away to the seaside, and Reception amazed us all by showing us just how big a Blue Whale really is.

And there is still more to come! Year 5 will be bringing us their Caribbean Carnival on Monday 13th July and Year 6 will round off the year with their performance of Aladdin on Wednesday 15th July. We can't wait!

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who have come along to watch — the children love performing for you, and your support means so much.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all parents and carers of the importance of treating everyone on our school site with respect. Our staff work incredibly hard for your children, and they — along with other parents, carers and visitors — deserve to be spoken to politely and treated with courtesy at all times.

The vast majority of our families are wonderfully supportive, and we thank you for that. However, we must be clear that rudeness, aggression or threats towards staff, children or other parents will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Where this does occur, we will take appropriate action, which may include individuals being banned from the school site.

Our school should be a safe, welcoming and respectful place for everyone — children, staff and families alike — and we thank you for helping us to keep it that way.

With two weeks left to go, the diary is still full of events. Please check the term and diary dates below to make sure that you know what is happening, where and when. Have a wonderful week everyone.

Stockwell Football Teams Enjoy a Fantastic Season

It has been an exciting and successful year for our Stockwell football teams, with plenty of memorable performances, teamwork and determination on display throughout the season.

Year 5 Football Tournament Success

A huge congratulations to our Year 5 football team, who enjoyed an outstanding tournament. The team finished 1st in their group after a series of impressive performances, winning all five of their group matches:

  • Stockwell 3–2
  • Stockwell 2–0
  • Stockwell 2–1
  • Stockwell 3–1
  • Stockwell 5–2

These fantastic results secured a well-deserved place in the final, where the team faced a strong Allen Edward’s side. Despite giving their all and showing great determination, Stockwell were narrowly defeated 3–1, finishing as tournament runners-up.

The players should be incredibly proud of their achievements. Throughout the tournament they displayed excellent teamwork, resilience, sportsmanship and a never-give-up attitude, representing Stockwell brilliantly.

Year 3/4 Football Team

Our Year 3/4 football team also had a positive season, finishing mid-table in the league. As one of the younger squads, the team continued to develop with every match, growing in confidence, skill and understanding of the game.

Their progress throughout the season has been fantastic to see, and there is every reason to believe this is a sign of exciting things to come next year. We look forward to watching them continue to improve and achieve even greater success.

💫 Stars of the Month 💫

Congratulations to our Stars of the Month, who have been recognised for their excellent attitude, hard work and positive contributions to school life.

  • Arielle (3T)
  • Qendel (3T)
  • Maher (5E)
  • Mured (5M)
  • Alexander (5M)

Well done to all of our award winners! Keep up the fantastic work and continue to be excellent role models within our school community.

A Special Thank You

Finally, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all of our parents and carers who generously gave up their time to support our football teams throughout the season. Whether it was transporting players, cheering from the side-lines or helping at matches, your encouragement and commitment made a huge difference. Your support is greatly appreciated and plays an important part in the success and enjoyment of school sport at Stockwell.

Well done to all of our players for representing Stockwell with pride. We can’t wait to see what next season brings!

Courage

Courage means doing the right thing, even when it feels scary or hard. It means trying something new, standing up for what you believe in, and having a go even when you're not sure you'll succeed. Courage means speaking up when something is wrong, even if others stay quiet. Courage doesn't mean you're never afraid — it means you keep going, even when you are.

It took courage for Amara to put her hand up and share her idea with the whole class.
Zaine showed courage when he tried the climbing wall, even though he was scared of heights.

Staying Safe During The Summer Holidays

With the school summer holidays only a matter of days away, many parents and carers will already be planning outings and activities to keep their young ones entertained. In between those special summer moments, though, there are also likely to be occasions when children happily invest a whole afternoon in Among Us or spend most of their Monday on Minecraft.

As young people’s screen time almost inevitably increases over the holidays, parents like to feel confident that their child will stay safe while they’re exploring the digital world. So The National College has produced a #WakeUpWednesday poster with some simple solutions to help children avoid frequent online pitfalls and enjoy a more positive experience when they go online this summer.

Friends of Stockwell (FOS) PTA

We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. It is great to see new faces taking part. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.

Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.

We are often asked how parents and carers can support the school. We have worked with the school to create an Amazon Wish List to enable parents, carers, friends and family members to buy items that the school really needs.

If you are in a position to support the school in this way, please have a look through, and if you see something you would like to buy, just follow the same process as you would if you were ordering something for yourself. Items will be delivered directly to the school, marked for the attention of the relevant teacher.

Attendance Attendance

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.

There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.

We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.

If your child arrives at school from 9am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.

Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.

If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.

Holidays in Term Time

Education Law states that it is not a parent’s right to take a child out of school during term time to go on holiday. Families must seek permission from the school and your school’s Headteacher is limited in what they can authorise. We can authorise leave if a child is in a performance and a performance license has been granted by the local authority. For any other authorised holiday, there must be extenuating circumstances therefore we cannot authorise a holiday because it is cheaper outside of term time.

Attendance Winners

Brilliant work everyone. Our attendance is back up to 95%, the national expectation. Despite the recent hot weather, attendance has been good. Well done for getting in to school.

School Uniform

School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.

Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.

While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.

Fostering in Lambeth

A new child comes into care every day in Lambeth. Many of these children will need the love and stability that a foster carer can provide.

What is fostering?

Being a foster parent means caring for someone else’s child as part of your family. Foster carers look after children who are unable to live with their parents, through no fault of their own. You'll be given lots of training and support, as well as allowances to cover living costs, the costs of food, travel and for the time you'll need to invest in supporting any child in your care.

Who can foster?

Lambeth Fostering welcome applications from everyone with a passion for caring. You just need to be over 21, have a spare room, good written and spoken English, and permanent UK residency.

Find out how you can be the difference: www.lambeth.gov.uk/be-the-difference
