Mrs.L's K/1 class engaged in their afternoon story time
Dear Families,
Act 1 meeting: Thursday’s parent meeting was such a warm and open exchange. Raising and schooling children together is so important. Jackson Goscha, our school counselor, provided a brief background of Act 1, a Vermont law that requires students in each grade to receive education on personal safety and sexual violence prevention. Beginning this coming week, he will be providing 6 sessions related to Act 1 in each classroom. This is the link to an overview of the lessons.
So you know what’s coming up, each week Jackson will share the focus for the next week’s lesson. We’re hoping this will provide some grist for family conversations.
K-1 week one - We will begin a discussion on safety and safe communication, specifically focusing on asking for help and beginning to talk about trusted adults.
2/3 & 4/5 week one - We will discuss what makes a space physically safe and safe for learning. This will include classroom learning agreements, a discussion about asking for help and an introduction to relationships and trusted adults.
Note: Identifying trusted adults will be a common theme throughout the lessons.
Please feel free to reach out to Jackson jgoscha@acsdvt.org if you have any questions.
Grand Friends Tea is coming up April 3, 2:00, a much loved tradition when your child’s grandparents or grand friends are invited to visit the school. Delicate sandwiches, cookies and tea served in our fine collection of dainty cups and saucers add to the decorum and fun of the event. If your child has grandparents or grand friends, please invite them and rsvp to Rachel rchapman@acsdvt.org.
No worries if your child does not have someone to invite. Several elders from the community are also invited and we will match them with children who do not have a grand friend. We ask that parents not come as their child’s guest. This has been a warm and wonderful event in the past for the children, guests and Weybridge Community. Let me know if you have questions.
Watch for news from FOWE about volunteering to help with the tea.
Reminder about planned absences:
Please remember to communicate any planned absences to me ahead of time. If your child is going to be out more than two days, you need to contact the Superintendent, Wendy Baker wbaker@acsdvt.org.
Please also include the classroom teacher and Rachel in your emails to me and the Superintendent regarding planned absences.
For all absences, it is also helpful, even for partial days, if you indicate why your child will be out of school - medical appointment, health, etc.
Reminders:
Spring conferences: If you haven’t already had or scheduled your parent conference, please do so. We’d like to have met with all of you by the end of the month.
April 1-17 - Weybridge VTCAP state testing window for grade 3-5. 4th/5th grade window is scheduled for April 1-9; Grade 3 window, April 7-14. We hope to have all assessments completed by April 17. A more detailed schedule will be posted next Monday. Please avoid making doctor’s appointments during these testing windows as it is complex to reschedule them. Thanks.
Lunch help: We need volunteers for Wednesday and Thursday this coming week. Please sign up directly on the March/April lunch calendar for next week or for days in the future. Thanks so much.
Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org or call if you have any questions (802-545-3301).
Best, Christina
