A Note from the Office

We couldn’t have asked for more perfect fall weather last week! The beautiful conditions made both our Walk to School Day on Wednesday and our fitness-themed Fun Run on Friday a huge success. Our Walk to School Day was full of fun, with students sporting silly hats and tutus along the way. Even Sasha joined in on the fun and wore both! On Friday, our students brought their energy and enthusiasm to the PHS track for our fitness-themed Fun Run. We have raised an incredible $25,885 so far! Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this amazing effort.

A huge thank you to our PTO and the families who helped organize and support both events. These special experiences would not be possible without the time, energy, and generosity of our school community. We are so grateful for everyone who helped make this week such a memorable one for our students!

On Wednesday, we also held our second PTO meeting of the year, where we discussed many exciting upcoming fall and winter events. We appreciate the continued partnership and support of our PTO and look forward to all the fun activities ahead!

Strategic Plan

We’re proud to introduce the Pembroke Public Schools Strategic Plan, a roadmap that will guide our priorities and work in the years ahead.

Created with input from our students, families, educators, staff, community partners, and School Committee, the plan reflects what matters most to our community—and where we see opportunities to grow.

Our focus is simple: helping every student thrive. We’ll continue working to strengthen academic outcomes while fostering curiosity, creativity, resilience, belonging, and meaningful support for every learner.

This plan is a living framework that will grow and evolve with our schools and community.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to everyone who helped shape this vision for the future of Pembroke Public Schools.

Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program

Officer Marybeth Simmons and her comfort dog, Sasha, have provided supportive services to students at our school since 2023 and are members of the Plymouth County Comfort Dog Program. To better understand the effectiveness of their services, we've partnered with the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program and Bridgewater State University to help them gather feedback from parents, teachers, and students.

We invite you and your child to participate in this evaluation of the program during the 2026-2027 school year. By participating in this process, you and your child will help us understand how Officer Simmons and Sasha support our students' success. Please see the attached document for more information about the evaluation and how you can opt out of the study.

If you do not want your child to participate, please complete this form by October 1st. If you agree to your child’s participation in this study, nothing else is required of you at this time.

If you have questions about this project, please feel free to contact me at marybeth.brust@pembrokek12.org.

Thank you,

Marybeth Brust

NURSES UPDATE

A Back-to-School Health Checklist

Help your child get ready for a healthy and successful school year:

Please have your student STAY HOME if they are ill. If you are unsure if your student is well enough to attend school, please call me to discuss their symptoms PRIOR to sending them in.

Review hygiene tips to prevent the spread of infections

Frequent HAND WASHING: the best practice is soap & water for 20 seconds, or hand sanitizer
Cough/sneeze into elbow
STAY HOME IF ILL

Make your child’s health concern(s) known to me. Please let me know of any illnesses or injuries that may have occurred over the summer & throughout the year.
Bring current signed healthcare provider orders [all medication orders must be renewed annually]. Forms are available on the website.
Make sure immunizations are up-to-date and provide me with documentation.
If warranted, provide an annual immunization exemption letter. [Per Massachusetts’ law, to ensure that the student body is best protected from vaccine preventable disease, both religious and medical exemptions must be renewed annually. A medical exemption requires a letter from the child’s medical doctor, a religious exemption requires a letter from the parent.]
Help your child synchronize his/her sleep cycle with the school day several weeks before school starts.
Start the day off with a good breakfast. The cafeteria serves breakfast daily.

Food Allergies/Outside Food: Many students have food allergies. It is imperative that parents notify me of any food allergies as soon as possible. In order to keep all students safe, we ask that parents DO NOT bring in outside food, other than lunches and healthy snacks for their own child’s consumption. We follow a “no sharing, no trading” model.

A food allergy can turn into a potentially life threatening situation.

Screenings: Are performed according to Massachusetts laws and guidelines. If there is an abnormal finding, parents will be notified by letter. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child and the screening process. Screenings will tentatively begin within the first few weeks of school.

Vision is screened grades K through 5.
Hearing is screened grades K through 3.
Heights, weights, and BMI’s are done in grades 1 and 4.
Postural screening is done in grades 5 and 6.

Please be sure all phone numbers and health care information is kept current throughout the school year.

I’m looking forward to a healthy and happy school year!

Nurse DePaul

Additionally, Nurse DePaul is available before school Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:55-8:15 for additional caregiver consultation time. Please reach out to her directly if you wish to connect with her during these hours.
