A Note from the Office

It was another incredibly busy and exciting week at Hobomock! We kicked things off with a little friendly competition as our staff participated in our annual pumpkin decorating contest. We had an amazing 21 creative and uniquely decorated pumpkins submitted, each showcasing the creativity and personality of our staff. Students had the opportunity to tour the pumpkin display and cast their votes for their favorite. After much anticipation, Mrs. Sciulli’s dinosaur pumpkin took home first place, followed by two adorable dumpling pumpkins! Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this such a fun addition to our week.

On Wednesday, we had an early release day, providing our staff with an afternoon of professional development. These opportunities allow our educators to collaborate, reflect on instructional practices, and continue building their knowledge and skills to best support our students.

Thursday brought an exciting learning experience for our third graders, who headed out on a field trip to Plimoth Patuxet. Students had the opportunity to extend their classroom learning beyond the walls of Hobomock and explore history through hands-on experiences. It was a great opportunity to make connections to what they have been learning while enjoying time together outside of the classroom.

We wrapped up the week with one of our favorite celebrations of the year—Halloween! Students arrived in their costumes, bringing plenty of excitement and Halloween spirit throughout the building. Our littlest learners participated in their annual costume parade, making their way through the school and giving everyone a chance to admire their creative costumes. It is always such a special tradition and a wonderful opportunity for our school community to come together.

We finished the day with a fun-filled Community Meeting and welcomed a very special guest, Mrs. Van Den Toorn, owner of Peppermint Twist Candy Store in Marshfield! We were excited to have her join us and share in the fall fun. Our Community Meetings continue to be a great way to bring students and staff together, celebrate our school community, and create meaningful shared experiences.

Strategic Plan

We’re proud to introduce the Pembroke Public Schools Strategic Plan, a roadmap that will guide our priorities and work in the years ahead.

Created with input from our students, families, educators, staff, community partners, and School Committee, the plan reflects what matters most to our community—and where we see opportunities to grow.

Our focus is simple: helping every student thrive. We’ll continue working to strengthen academic outcomes while fostering curiosity, creativity, resilience, belonging, and meaningful support for every learner.

This plan is a living framework that will grow and evolve with our schools and community.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to everyone who helped shape this vision for the future of Pembroke Public Schools.

Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program

Officer Marybeth Simmons and her comfort dog, Sasha, have provided supportive services to students at our school since 2023 and are members of the Plymouth County Comfort Dog Program. To better understand the effectiveness of their services, we've partnered with the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program and Bridgewater State University to help them gather feedback from parents, teachers, and students.

We invite you and your child to participate in this evaluation of the program during the 2026-2027 school year. By participating in this process, you and your child will help us understand how Officer Simmons and Sasha support our students' success. Please see the attached document for more information about the evaluation and how you can opt out of the study.

If you do not want your child to participate, please complete this form by October 1st. If you agree to your child’s participation in this study, nothing else is required of you at this time.

If you have questions about this project, please feel free to contact me at marybeth.brust@pembrokek12.org.

Thank you,

Marybeth Brust

A Back-to-School Health Checklist

Help your child get ready for a healthy and successful school year:

Please have your student STAY HOME if they are ill. If you are unsure if your student is well enough to attend school, please call me to discuss their symptoms PRIOR to sending them in.

  • Review hygiene tips to prevent the spread of infections

    • Frequent HAND WASHING: the best practice is soap & water for 20 seconds, or hand sanitizer

    • Cough/sneeze into elbow

    • STAY HOME IF ILL

  • Make your child’s health concern(s) known to me. Please let me know of any illnesses or injuries that may have occurred over the summer & throughout the year.

  • Bring current signed healthcare provider orders [all medication orders must be renewed annually]. Forms are available on the website.

  • Make sure immunizations are up-to-date and provide me with documentation.

  • If warranted, provide an annual immunization exemption letter. [Per Massachusetts’ law, to ensure that the student body is best protected from vaccine preventable disease, both religious and medical exemptions must be renewed annually. A medical exemption requires a letter from the child’s medical doctor, a religious exemption requires a letter from the parent.]

  • Help your child synchronize his/her sleep cycle with the school day several weeks before school starts.

  • Start the day off with a good breakfast. The cafeteria serves breakfast daily.

Food Allergies/Outside Food: Many students have food allergies. It is imperative that parents notify me of any food allergies as soon as possible. In order to keep all students safe, we ask that parents DO NOT bring in outside food, other than lunches and healthy snacks for their own child’s consumption. We follow a “no sharing, no trading” model.

A food allergy can turn into a potentially life threatening situation.

Screenings: Are performed according to Massachusetts laws and guidelines. If there is an abnormal finding, parents will be notified by letter. Please contact me if you have any concerns regarding your child and the screening process. Screenings will tentatively begin within the first few weeks of school.

  • Vision is screened grades K through 5.

  • Hearing is screened grades K through 3.

  • Heights, weights, and BMI’s are done in grades 1 and 4.

  • Postural screening is done in grades 5 and 6.

Please be sure all phone numbers and health care information is kept current throughout the school year.

I’m looking forward to a healthy and happy school year!

Nurse DePaul

Additionally, Nurse DePaul is available before school Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 7:55-8:15 for additional caregiver consultation time. Please reach out to her directly if you wish to connect with her during these hours.
