Families,

I can hardly believe that October ends next week! It honestly feels like it just began. We’ll be ending the month with a Cheetah Pride assembly and a spirit day. Students and staff are invited to wear black and orange on Friday to celebrate the season.

Next month is full of events, including a professional learning day for teachers, Veteran’s Day, the PTO-sponsored Pasta Family Dinner, and the Thanksgiving break. Please be sure to review these upcoming dates.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Joey and Jessica

Many classrooms welcome Mystery Readers, and last week, Mrs. Halvorson had two special guests. Mrs. Distin and her son, Oliver, came in to read The Book With No Words. Oliver is the older brother of one of Mrs. Halvorson’s current students, and a former student as well! He is now in fifth grade and did a terrific job reading to his sister’s class.

The Garden Club Is Up And Running The Garden Club Is Up And Running

The grade 3 Garden Club is back in action, and this year it is being led by Mrs. Dupuis. For their first meeting of the year, the club took time to clean out, and replant, the large pots in our front parking lot. Thanks to donations from Paul’s and Sandy’s Too, the club was able to completely revitalize our planters with a beautiful seasonal theme!

Bus Safety Bus Safety

This week we are celebrating National Bus Safety Week. Linda Miner, EHPS Transportation Secretary, and Mrs. Warner visited every lunch wave on Monday to review bus safety. Students were great listeners as they demonstrated how students should enter and exit the bus, as well as how students should look and sound when riding on the bus. Mrs. Warner also reviewed the Bus Safety Poster Contest, which was open all week. The winner will be announced next week. Other Bus Safety activities included: writing thank you notes to drivers, reading a Bus Safety poem, and taking a Bus Safely pledge!

PAWsitive Office Referrals PAWsitive Office Referrals

A PAWsitive office referral can be submitted to Mrs. Warner or Mrs. Bauer at any time when a staff member recognizes a student who has demonstrated a random act of kindness. These students earn a certificate, have their picture taken, and wear a pawprint sticker throughout the day so that everyone in the building knows they’ve earned a PAWsitive Office Referral.

All students during this past month have been hard at work while creating their “Art to Remember” drawings. They are creating unique works of art that reflect their own personal interests, personalities, and ideas. When you view your child’s masterpiece for the first time, one of the best things you can do is ask your little artist “Can you tell me about your art?”, or “Tell me about this part of your art!”. Get excited! They sure are putting incredible time and effort into their beautiful artwork, their ideas have been endless, and they are very excited to share their artistic expressions with you!

During your child’s past three art classes, in every grade, each student first learned how to create a SKETCH with pencil only. They learned how important it is for artists to plan their ideas for their art BEFORE they add color, and how it is very normal for an artist to change their mind and adjust their sketch. Artists don’t MAKE MISTAKES, they CHANGE THEIR MIND! It is very difficult to do that when we use markers or crayons first, and forget to sketch with pencil. Why is that?? Because pencil can ERASE, and an artist can change their mind as many times as they want!

After the artists finished sketching, they were directed to make thoughtful artistic decisions while adding color to their work. Drawing materials that were available for the students’ choices included sharpie, colored pencil, crayon, and marker. Third graders had extended choice with their materials, including chalk pastel, pen, and oil pastel.

All students will be receiving a personalized order form from the company, Art To Remember, who helps us to raise funds for our art program at Memorial school. This is the 12th consecutive year of hosting this fundraiser for the visual arts program, and your purchase of the over 60 keepsakes with your child’s artwork on them will help acquire more clay, paint, printmaking tools, paper, and art resources for all Memorial School children to enjoy during art class each day!

Individual student order forms will be coming home in the next few weeks! Feel free to reach out to me, Mrs. Vining, any time if you have questions or want to learn more about this amazing opportunity!

Notes From The Nurse Notes From The Nurse

"Flu before Boo" "Flu before Boo"

Doctors often use the phrase “flu before boo” to remind people to get their flu vaccine before Halloween. Often, I am asked by parents and guardians "when should I get the flu vaccine?" I always recommend consulting with your primary care physician as I do not take the place of your medical provider.

Some may have heard the recent news reports that the 2026–2027 flu season is off to an unusually early start in parts of the United States particularly on the west coast. For those who choose to get the flu shot for themselves and their students, it is just a reminder that it does take about two weeks for the body to build full protection.

Pre-k - For those students in our pre-K and smart start programs under the age of 5 years old, are required to receive the flu vaccine. 1 dose administered between August 1st - December 31st - 2 doses if the student has never received the flu vaccine prior and needs to be separated by 28 days. Proof of vaccination is required by December 31st.

Any questions or concerns please reach our office.
