4TH GRADE
4th grade Math students are learning so much! We started learning about fractions this week and will continue working with fractions for a while. PLEASE have your child review multiplication and division every night. It will help us so much! In Science, we are still exploring energy and we have been discussing electrical energy and circuits. The students created their own batter to power a small section of a strand of Christmas lights. They really enjoyed it! We are now discussing forces.
In 5th grade Science we also have been exploring electricity and circuits. These students also created a battery to light their bulb. They did great! We are not moving into light reflection and vision. Please ask your child what they are learning.
Also, many of our students are practicing for UIL. Have them work at home if possible.
Thank you for sharing your children,
Mrs. Brown
ELAR/SS
We had a fun week learning more about Dia De Los Muertos! We wrote our first informational piece of writing and were able to showcase all that we learned.
Reminders...
- Students need to be reading 20 minutes every night! We haven't had as many AR Tests, and that is going to hurt our chances at reaching our goals.
- Spelling tests are EVERY Thursday.
- Continue practicing for UIL. Official teams will be decided by Friday.
- Please ensure your child is here on time every single day. We have a lot to cover in four days.
- Please make sure you take a look at the updated school calendar. Some dates have changed.
- Last call for book orders! They are due Friday, October 29th.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns on Dojo. The kids are working so diligently every day, and I am so honored to be their teacher.
Thank you for all you do! 🙂

5TH GRADE
Math
-Please have your student practice math facts for a few minutes every night. We will soon be going into fractions. It makes it easier to simplify and get common denominators.
-We are still multiplying decimals and going in to dividing decimals this coming week. Say a prayer for us. We do not like anything related to division.
-Thank you for all your support,
Mrs. Gamez
Reading:
We are continuing to work through author's purpose and craft. We are looking at how author's use their voice and show their personality through their writing. We are going to be shifting some here in the next week and focusing on types of fiction. I'm really looking forward to this new unit and I think we can definitely have some fun with it.
Social Studies:
The students are working on learning what it means to be a new country. We are currently learning about our government and how it is set up. This has been a good thing for the students because they are really seeing how our government is meant to work.
Reminders:
- Read, read, read. Please have your child read for at least 20/min a day.
- We have some field trips coming up, so please be on the lookout for more information on that.
- Spelling test will be on Wednesday, November 3. Spelling list will go home the following day.
- If your child is in UIL, please make sure they are working on their event at home.
Thanks!
