Featured iPad App: Skitch

The cart iPads were recently updated, including the installation of several new apps!

Skitch is a free app that allows users to add highlights, captions, drawings, or other markings to any image. Students can sketch ideas, mark-up photos, make diagrams, create and label maps, and even annotate text.

Here is a step-by-step tutorial for introducing the app to students, as well as a tic-tac-toe choice board of activities, by MsJordanReads.

Here are some other ways to use Skitch with your class:

  • Create diagrams (e.g., stages of a life cycle, layers of the ocean, planets in a solar system)
  • Label states or countries on a blank map
  • Take a screenshot of non-fiction articles and annotate to promote active reading
  • Label fiction story elements
  • Label non-fiction text features
  • Make vocabulary come to life by taking a picture or sketching an example
  • Deconstruct word problems (snap a photo of the problem & mark it up!)
  • Show work for math questions

The possibilities are endless!
