For some reason, Mother Nature brought back some frigid temps over the last 7 days ... it was downright COLD last Tuesday! Fortunately for Hobart fans, the Brickies have been HEATING THINGS UP this spring! In case you haven't quite caught the excitement of spring sports, here's something that might help ...
Buddy you're a boy make a big noise
Playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo' face
You big disgrace
Kickin' your can all over the place
Singin'
WE WILL ... WE WILL ... ROCK YOU!
WE WILL ... WE WILL ... ROCK YOU!
Ok, now that we're all pumped up ... it's time for BricksCenter!
Baseball
On Monday night, the Brickies were at The SteelYard, Home of the Gary Southshore Railcats, to square off with Kankakee Valley. Early on, KV controlled the action scoring 2 runs and limiting opportunities for the Hobart offense to take a 2-0 lead into the top half of the 4th inning. With the bases loaded and only 1 out, junior Jayme Hairston BELTED a double that scored 2 runs and tied the game at 2-2! After the bases were loaded again, senior Nick Sobczynski hustled out a bunt-single and 2 more Brickie runs scored for a 4-2 advantage!! Our boys would tally 11 total runs in the 4th inning alone ... tack on 5 more in the 5th inning and come home with an IMPRESSIVE 16-2 VICTORY!! AWESOME!! Once Hobart took the lead, junior pitcher Drew Burris closed the door on any thoughts the Kougars may have had about making a comeback with a masterful performance on the mound!
Tuesday night brought a second game in a row against the Kougars, but this time it was in H-town! The Brickies got on the BOOOOOOAAAARRDD first with a run in the opening inning of play, but KV responded with 3 of their own in the 2nd to move in front 3-1. After cutting the deficit to 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning, our boys regained the lead with a 4-run 3rd inning and that's all the offense that senior Gabe Nunez needed as he & junior Connor Stafford shut down the visitors the rest of the way to seal to 6-3 VICTORY!! Senior Jevan Andrews, junior Alex Martin and freshman Connor Kenjic all recorded RBI hits in the win.
On Thursday, the Bricks were on the road at Boone Grove for a non-conference contest. Hobart struck first with a run in the 2nd inning, but the Wolves responded with 2 in the 3rd to move in front 2-1. After our boys knotted the game at 2-2 in the 4th, the hosts again plated two more runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 4-2 advantage. Once again, the Brickies BATTLED BACK with two runs of our own in the 5th to tie the score AGAIN ... this time at 4-4! Unfortunately, the Wolves ran 5 across the plate in the bottom half of the 6th inning and held the Bricks scoreless in their final at bat to win the game 9-4.
Friday night, Hobart was scheduled to travel over to Chesterton for another non-conference game, but Mother Nature had other plans and rain storms caused a postponement.
Hobart is now 6-8 overall and 3-5 in NCC play. This is another BIG WEEK as the Bricks will try to take advantage of a bye week in the NCC to square off with some different opponents. LET'S GO BOYS - YOU CAN DO THIS!!

On Tuesday, the Brickies were scheduled to host Highland in a BIG NCC matchup. Unfortunately, wet court conditions caused a postponement to Wednesday. So, the Trojans made a return trip to The Friendly City and the match was ON! BOTH doubles teams ... juniors Addison Williams & Isis Fleming @ #1 and senior Madalyn Riggle & sophomore Emily Cicillian @ #2 ... WON for the Brickies in straight sets! Sadly, those were the only positions where Hobart was able to snare victory as Highland swept all 3 singles spots and won 3-2.
Thursday, another NCC rival - Munster - was on the schedule. The Mustangs are currently the NCC-leader and their talent showed against the Bricks in winning 4 of the 5 matches in straight sets. Junior Gracie Krejci BATTLED into a 3rd set @ #3 singles, but lost a heartbreaker 2-1.
On Saturday, Hobart traveled to New Prairie for their annual invite! With a tournament set-up similar to our own Hobart Invite from 2 weeks ago, our girls knew what to expect and SHINED BRIGHT on the courts! Junior Natalie Crowley finished 3rd @ #1 singles and senior Melanie Paterson placed 7th @ #2 singles! Krejci had to withdraw due to an injury, but her replacement - sophomore Leilani Huber - filled in nicely and the duo earned 4th overall @ #3 singles! Williams & Fleming were 4th @ #1 dubs and Riggle & Cicillian finished 6th @ #2.
The Brickies are now 4-4 on the year with just 2 more weeks until IHSAA Sectional play begins right here in H-town! KEEP IT UP LADIES!!

THANK YOU Natalie Hostetler for all the awesome pictures!
Track & Field
With the NCC race at it's halfway point, the Brickies had a HUGE meet on Tuesday against both Lowell & Munster ... two of the top competitors in the quest for the conference crown!
For the girls, the FANTASTIC FOUR - senior Cailey Weber, junior Taylor Pope & sophomores Cassie Cohen and Aalliah Otero - accounted for 8 individual victories on the night and 3 of the 4 raced to a win in the 1600m relay! In fact, ALL of our girls were AMAZING with their performances, which helped Hobart defeat Lowell for the first time in years!! Unfortunately, the Mustangs had just enough in the tank to edge the Bricks by 4 points. Final Scores: Hobart 101, Lowell 31; Hobart 64, Munster 68
On the boys side, Hobart placed 1st in 11 of the 16 events and WON both duals!! Freshman Bryce Tolliver (110m Hurdles) continues to impress in the hurdles along with senior Cirian Spencer (300m Hurdles) as they each took 1st in one event ... juniors Willie Shearer (400m dash) & Kael Schlosser (long jump) stayed UNDEFEATED in their respective events for the year ... and seniors Vinny Gutierrez (3200m run) & Anthony Hnilo (high jump) also took the top spot in their events! The Brickie depth of EXCELLENCE was on full display as our boys also put mutliple individuals in 2nd & 3rd against the mighty Mustangs & Red Devils, which added up to the lopsided scores! WOW!! On Friday night, Hobart took a yellow bus over to LaVille for the Lancer Relays! This meet was a last minute addition after the Portage/Wheeler meet got cancelled in early April. Dodging raindrops should've been an added event as it rained for 2 hours straight. Still, our Bricks always seem to find a way to SHINE! Both the boys & girls Distance Medley Relay teams set NEW MEET RECORDS ... our girls time being the 2nd fastest in HOBART HISTORY! The girls team consisted of Cailey Weber, Aalliah Otero, Audrey Turley & Cassie Cohen. The boys team was made up of Felix Lopez, Vinny Gutierrez, Carson Bell & Willy Shearer.
Overall, our boys finished 3rd & the girls were 4th in the 8-team field.
Our girls are now 2-1 in NCC action on the year and the boys stayed UNDEFEATED at 3-0! The final NCC dual meet of the regular season will be HUGE on Tuesday @ Kankakee Valley ... setting the stage for an EXCITING NCC Championship @ Hanover on 5/7! LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!

THANK YOU Mackie Stankich for sharing so many FANTASTIC photos!

Boys Golf
On Tuesday, the Brickie were on the road at Portage to face the Indians & Wheeler Bearcats. It was WINDY, COLD and RAINED on our boys the entire match ... not exactly what you might call "ideal conditions" for swinging the wrenches. Still, the Brickies SHINED! Senior Nate Becerra was tops for Hobart with a season-best 41! Classmate Parker Glass was next in the clubhouse with a 46 and Hunter Kilar, Ben Eberle & Gavin Roper rounded out the top 5 scorers. With 4 golfers in the 40s, Hobart was able to earn a VICTORY over the Bearcats, but lost a nailbiter to Portage by just 1 stroke. Coach Gary Roach had this to say after the match, "Our guys were wet and tired from climbing the Creekside hills, but we played well and secured our first win of the season!"
Wednesday brought the Highland Trojans to River Pointe Country Club for an NCC matchup. With the weather slightly better and the course not nearly as wet, the Bricks were THROWING DARTS OUT THERE!! WOW! Glass & Eberle were 1-2 for Hobart with a 42 & 43 ... Becerra was right behind them with a 47 to help earn the EXCITING 185-189 VICTORY!!! YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOAAARD - YES!!!
On Friday, Hobart was scheduled to host Morgan Township in a non-conference match, but a 2pm rainstorm that lasted until 5 put too much water on the course to play.
As we approach the midway point in the spring season for our golfers, the Brickies are currently 2-3 overall and 1-1 in NCC play. Weather permitting, our boys will get 3 more chances to play through this upcoming week! GOOD LUCK BOYS!!
#PARFORCOURSE
THANK YOU Sherri Eberle for these photos! It was COLD on Tuesday!!
Softball
On Monday afternoon, the Brickies welcomed the Merrillville Pirates to The Friendly City for a non-conference game. The visitors scored 1 run to open the contest, but Hobart responded with AUTHORITY tallying 8 runs in the bottom half of the first inning to move in front 8-1! In fact, our girls continued to parade around the bases in tune to a 24-4 VICTORY in just 5 innings! Senior Morgan Ellenberger had 4 hits ... two of them 2Bs and one a GRAND SLAM HOMERUN to give her 5 RBI on the night! Freshman Alexis Turley matched her going 4-for-4 with a HOMERUN of her own and 2 RBI! Senior Keirys Click also had a HOMERUN and 5 RBI in the win - WOW!
Wednesday night brought the KV Kougars to H-town! Back on April 15th, Hobart lost a tough one to the Kougars by a score of 8-4 and this one offered a chance to earn a season split in the series ... and IT WAS AN INSTANT CLASSIC!! WOW! In the first, KV scored 1 and the Bricks scored two on a 2-out single by freshman Kylie Bulatovich with the bases loaded! When the Kougars tied the game at 2-2 in the 4th, Hobart regained the lead on a solo HOMERUN by Click! Trailing 4-2 in the top of the 7th, Kankakee Valley hit a 2-run homer to tie the game and send it to extra innings. After holding the Kougars scoreless in the top of the frame, Hobart was able to load the bases. With 2 out, Bulatovich stepped into the batters box and BELTED the first pitch into right field to bring home the GAME WINNING RUN!!! HOLY SCHNIKES - WHAT A FINISH!!! Bulatovich finished with 2 hits & 3 RBIs ... including the game-winner, Click had 3 hits & 2 RBIs and freshman Nora Hornak also collected 2 hits in the win! Ellenberger & senior Ella Hornak each pitched 4 innings and struck out 5 to help our girls win their 6th in a row!
On Thursday, the Brickies were at home once again ... this time against the Griffith Panthers. Through 2 innings, Hobart held a 1-0 advantage. In the 3rd, the visitors plated one run to tie the game, but our girls responded with 7 RUNS in the bottom half of the inning to take a COMMANDING 8-1 lead! AWESOME!! Over the next 2 innings, the Bricks added 3 more runs to earn the 11-1 VICTORY!! Junior Taylor Lopez led the offensive attack with 2 hits! Click, senior Payton Michael and sophomore Sierra Teel all contributed 2 RBIs and classmate Allie Snider pitched all 5 innings to pick up the win in the circle!
Friday was supposed to be a rescheduled game against archrival Andrean ... but down came the rain and washed the field out. So, this one has been rescheduled AGAIN - hopefully we can get it in on Tuesday, May 7th.
Hobart is now 11-3 overall & an even 3-3 in NCC play. Our girls have won 7 STRAIGHT GAMES and are currently UNDEFEATED at home! WOW!! Four more games over the next 5 days ... plus a tournament at Twin Lakes ... will keep the Brickies busy! GO GET 'EM GIRLS!!
#GOBRICKSGO
THANK YOU to Branka Clemens for the AMAZING pics!
Unified Track & Field
On Thursday night, the Brickies hosted Griffith, Kankakee Valley & Munster for SENIOR NIGHT! Prior to the first event, Hobart recognized 20 student athletes & their families for the commitment & dedication to the Unified Track & Field program ... and then the fun got started with the Brickies WINNING the 4x200m Relay! Seniors Mason Jackson-Solomon, Margo Page & Cara Lawrence joined junior Jackson Butler and crossed the finish line first to win the initial event of the night!! Overall, our kids were FANTASTIC and had some AMAZING performances including Jackson-Solomon also winning the 100m dash! Other winners for Hobart were senior Aidan Olague with a throw of 40'05" in the shot put and our girls 4x100m Relay team consisting of Lawrence, Page, senior Brianna Candiano and freshman Brooke Hawkins!
Here are some other results from Thursday's meet:

THANK YOU Becky Williams for all the GREAT pics!
Boys Volleyball
On Tuesday, our boys hosted Bishop Noll to start a busy week of competition. The Warriors were sharp right from the start and won the contest in 3 games. Senior Jacob Lewis led the Brickies with 4 kills ... classmate Jacob Ramirez & freshman Joel Mock combined for 19 digs ... and sophomore Codi Ketchum recorded 8 assists in the loss.
Thursday involved a short road trip over to 5959 Broadway to face the Andrean 59ers. Back on April 4th, these 2 teams squared off in a VERY competitive match that ended up being won by the '9ers. This time around was NO DIFFERENT! Andrean got the upper hand early and won the first set 13-25. The Bricks FOUGHT BACK and PLAYED HARD over the next 2 sets ... closing the gap, but ultimately falling short 18-25 & 18-25. This one was closer than the scoreboard might indicate as our boys were RIGHT THERE in each of the final two sets.
On Saturday, Hobart headed West over to Munster for the inaugural Mustang Invite. What was waiting in the first contest of the day? A rematch with Bishop Noll! The first game was close, but Noll won 15-25. In the 2nd game, our boys matched the Warriors POINT FOR POINT and nearly pulled off the upset ... falling just 23-25. In the second game of the day, area powerhouse Lake Central was the opponent. Again, the Brickies CAME TO PLAY and BATTLED the Indians HARD! Eventually, the Indians were able to secure the win, but Hobart was able to push them to the limit before falling.
The Brickies are still looking for their first varsity win of the spring. The final week of the season is upon us and our boys have 3 more opportunities to claim it. YOU CAN DO THIS GUYS!! WE BELIEV IN YOU!!!
