Welcome to our first edition of the Nohl Canyon Roadrunner Newsletter for the 2022-2023 school year. Each Sunday evening, a new edition will be published. Please refer to the newsletter for important information relating to Nohl Canyon, OUSD and NCSA. The newsletter can also be found on our Nohl Canyon Webpage . I welcome back our returning Roadrunners and cannot wait to meet our new families!

Bio on Mr. Jones:

Mr. Jeffrey Jones is excited to begin his 4th year at Nohl Canyon Elementary School. He is entering his 24th year as an educator and 18th year with Orange Unified School District. He looks forward to continuing to build collaborative partnerships with staff, students and parents to provide innovative learning experiences for all students!

Mr. Jones previously served Orange Unified School District as an Assistant Principal at Villa Park High School (2014-2019). Prior to his administration position, Mr. Jones taught Physical Education at Cerro Villa Middle School (2005-2014) and J.H. Hull Middle School (1999-2004) in the Torrance Unified School District. Mr. Jones earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration in 2012 from Concordia University. He completed his Kinesiology and Physical Education degree along with his teaching credential from California State University, Long Beach (1999).

Mr. Jones’ passion is to create an environment where students, staff and parents feel welcomed and safe on a daily basis. He strives for all students to feel engaged in their learning environment. Nohl Canyon is that place and Mr. Jones is humbled to be part of a wonderful community.

DATA CONFIRMATION is part of the annual registration process. Prior to REGISTRATION DAY (Aug 16th), all families need to complete DATA CONFIRMATION through PARENT PORTAL (use your parent log-in, NOT student log-in). Once the data confirmation is finalized and submitted, you can print and sign the emergency card. The school will collect the emergency card at REGISTRATION DAY (Aug. 16th).

New addition to DATE CONFIRMATION:

This year OUSD has added two new questions to Data Confirmation.

1. How many people are in your household?
2. What is your total monthly household income?

On Thursday, August 11th @ 4:00pm, Nohl Canyon is inviting ALL NEW FAMILIES to an orientation! The orientation will provide you an opportunity to visit NC campus, meet Mr. Jones and our NCSA Executive Board, and learn important details regarding NC.

Nohl Canyon will host a Registration Day on Tuesday, August 16th. Registration Day allows families to turn in important Data Confirmation paperwork, drop off Emergency packs, purchase school uniforms and spirit ware, learn who your childs teacher is AND complete SCHOOL PICTURE DAY!!

Nohl Canyon is a Uniform School:

UNIFORM POLICY:

Tops – Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month.

Bottoms – Uniform bottoms are to be any type (jeans and leggings included) of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid.

You're invited to participate in OUSD Community Safety Forums to help gather input and to create a District Safety Task Force to develop recommendations for OUSD Board of Education. Each meeting will begin at 5:00 pm.

If your child will need medication at school during the 2022-2023 school year, please have your health care provider fill out the following form. Bring the completed form and medication to the health office before the beginning of the next school year in August, 2022.

NCSA 5th grade fundraising has an exciting event planned for ALL Nohl Canyon Families! Tickets will be available for the September 30th Angel Game! Profits from ticket sells goes toward our 5th grade fundraising (fundraising for 6th grade activities).

2022/2023 CARES ENROLLMENT FLYER. The CARES program will begin enrollment for the 2022/23 school year on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The KIDS CORNER section of the newsletter will be a place to highlight our Roadrunner Students succeeding in outside activities. Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. If you would like to highlight your child, please send Mr. Jones a photo and description of your child(s).
