Bulldog BulletinApril 12, 2024

Hello, Sarah Adams families,

We certainly have had quite an exciting week, starting off with viewing the Eclipse as a whole building on Monday afternoon! Students did an excellent job showing their BulldogBest while joining their classmates outside for this special event. There was such excitement in the air as students and staff eagerly waited to see the crescent sun appear; it certainly was a memorable day!

Wednesday was also a fun-filled event, thanks to our PTO, who organized two wonderful events for our students and staff. We welcomed JG's Reptile Show for an afternoon filled with excitement and information on some really cool animals! We had an opportunity to meet a bearded dragon, python, tortoise, black throat monitor and even an alligator! Some students had the opportunity to touch or hold these animals, which added to the excitement. We also loved seeing so many of our Bulldog families at McDonalds after school at our McTeacher Night! Thank you for joining us and supporting our PTO!

April is Autism Acceptance month and we are celebrating in a multitude of ways, here at Sarah Adams. We will have a Spirit Week starting next week, please see below for the specifics on each day. Beyond that, students have the opportunity to compete in a coloring contest and have learned more about autism through a presentation shared during their lunch block.

Finally, it's hard to believe, but our ABC Countdown is beginning on Friday, April 19th! Each day from the 19th until May 24th will have theme that corresponds with the next letter in the alphabet. The detailed description is provided below.

We hope to see you next week at our Earth Day Event on April 18th! The flyer below has details on who will be featured at this outdoor event. It will be a fun afternoon! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the sunny days ahead!

Fondly,

Colleen Conway

Assignments for 24-25 School Year

This is the time of year where our staff will begin the process of student/teacher assignments for the 2024– 2025 school year. The entire staff plays a role in this process, as we work to place each of the children into the very best setting. We consider learning styles, student personalities, girl/boy ratio, class size, and student academic strengths and needs, all while striving for a heterogeneous class make-up (full range of abilities).

If you would like to share something about your child’s learning style or personality that would help us with this placement process, please submit your letter to Ms. Conway no later than April 30th, 2024. We trust that you will rely on our professional judgment, as we group each of the children with the idea of creating the best learning environment possible for everyone. With that being said, requesting particular teachers will not be accepted.

Classroom Relocation Communications

As you know, part of your student’s growth and development involves learning and practicing important social-emotional skills (such as using effective communication skills and learning to cope when feeling upset or frustrated).

There are times when students may struggle to demonstrate these skills during the school day, and when they may need additional support from adults in order to help them engage with others and with the activity at hand. This support might involve transitioning the class to another location (i.e., learning hub, alternate classroom) to continue their learning while the student who is struggling receives additional help from staff.

Previously, we have communicated directly with parents/guardians of those learners most impacted by a student struggling to demonstrate social-emotional skills (for example, if a student was upset following a disruption in the classroom). Moving forward, we will be sharing with the entire class following substantial incidents of disruption - so that all families have this information for their reference (and so that they can speak to their student at home, should they wish). Families can expect this information to be sent via email, and we will make every effort to send these communications before the end of the school day.

It should also be noted that there are several other circumstances in which a classroom may relocate during the day (for example, if there is a student who becomes ill in the classroom and clean-up is needed). During these instances, families would not necessarily receive communication - apart from more unusual circumstances.

Thank you for your understanding, as we work to help all learners achieve their own personal excellence here at Sarah Adams. Please do not hesitate to reach with any additional questions you may have.
