Hamilton Happenings

It was a GREAT first week of school!!
Thank you for your partnership and trust!
Hamilton KIDS CAN!
This is my eighth year as principal of Hamilton Elementary and I continue to see the impact our investment has on students. This past year, our 5th grade students scored 72.9% proficient on their Reading MCAs. This was the second-highest score across 5th grade of the 25 elementary schools in our school district, scoring just slightly behind Andover Elementary and significantly above our 'like' schools with similar demographics across the state... and country. This speaks volumes of our mantra, 'HAMILTON KIDS CAN'! It takes a village to do this work, and you are a significant part of our school community! You are getting your children to school! You are supporting our staff by reinforcing kids making positive choices. Our staff demonstrates care for the needs of students. We teach to empower students to overcome challenges through the power of learning! Together, we are making a difference in the lives of our students to show them they are Valuable & Capable! There is a sense of pride our students now carry into school as they know THEY BELONG at Hamilton! I invite you to come visit Hamilton, stay for lunch, and volunteer, we are proud to showcase what's happening at school through our partnerships... we're not perfect... but we NEVER quit when it comes to kids!!
Family Challenge: We challenge you to limit kids on technology!!
We gave away lots and lots of games at our Meet & Greet with the goal being to spend family time playing board games and encouraging kids to get outside and off of technology! We're seeing the impact of technology at school and want to bring your attention to consider other ways for kids to spend time! Face-to-face interactions and play are powerful and help to build self-confidence and confident communicators. (Click on the Screen Time photo to hear one Hamilton family's story.)
Safe & Welcoming
This week we began our safety talks in classrooms. This is in support of the Anoka-Hennepin strategic priority to create safe and welcoming school environments. We want our students to know what we expect. Every day we teach and model what it means to be safe and kind. When we are outside of these expectations it impacts student achievement. By learning what's expected, and being accountable to these expectations, we build a stronger and more successful community! For more information go to AHschools.us/support.
Save the Date: Saturday, October 10th for our annual Hamilton Hoopla!!
It's our first PTO family event of the year, and we get to meet our Hamilton community members! We'll have games and prizes, candy, and more! More information to come in the weeks ahead... but feel free to stock up on candy as we will need bags and bags of candy donated!! And we welcome you to join the 'trunk' decorating for Trunk & Treat!
We invite everyone to join our Hamilton PTO. Our first meeting is on Thursday, September 24th at 5:00pm in the media center!! Hope to see you there!
