Navigating Cold and Flu Season
In collaboration with the Caroline County Health Department and Choptank Community Health, we are working to prevent the spread of colds and flu in our schools. Please review the following measures that will aid in keeping your family healthy.
If your child is sick, especially with a fever*, keep him or her at home until he or she has been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
*Fever: oral temperature of 100° or more, or ear or forehead temperature of 100.4° or higher
Follow up with your child’s health care provider if he/she becomes ill.
Encourage your child to cover his/her mouth and nose with tissues when sneezing or coughing. If a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into the bend of the elbow.
Remind your child to wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Remind your child to keep his or her hands away from the face.
Avoid being around people who are sick.
Make sure your child and family members receive a seasonal flu and COVID vaccine if recommended by their doctor.
Make the school aware of new or changed contact numbers so that we may reach you promptly.
The staff at each school will be reinforcing these measures with the students. In addition, we are asking that if your child is at home sick with a fever and symptoms of an influenza-like illness (cough, sore throat, sneezing, runny nose), please let your child’s school nurse know. This will enable CCPS to track and identify patterns of illness more quickly.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school’s Health Room, or your school’s School Based Health Centers.

Social Emotional Well-Being
Did you know? Bullying and conflict are different. We can help your child with both. Learning how to navigate conflict is a normal part of a child's social development. Teach and reinforce kindness in all situations. Report bullying, and empower bystanders and victims.

Special Education Resources
Caroline County Public Schools is aware of concerns regarding recent changes to U.S. immigration policy and enforcement. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has provided guidance which reinforces our own belief that every student—regardless of immigration status—receives the support they need from our educational system. Please visit the CCPS website for complete information.

From the Wellness Center
Dear Parents,
February is National School-Based Health Center Awareness Month, and our Choptank Health providers are sharing the importance and impact of School-Based Health Centers.
DYK? School-Based Health Centers play a critical role in setting our children up for success inside and outside of school through increased access to health care, contributing to positive educational outcomes, reducing emergency room use, lowering healthcare costs, and expanding access to mental health services, among other benefits.
Choptank Health partners with all five of Maryland's Mid-Shore school systems to provide medical, dental, behavioral health, and nutrition services for enrolled students. Keeping your children's smiles healthy contributes to overall good health, and Choptank Health is also building awareness about its School-Based dental services as part of National Children's Dental Health Month. School-based dental services include dental screenings, cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatment, and emergency
visits--and care is coordinated with your child’s primary dentist. Our Choptank Health providers are also providing these Healthy Smile Tips:
Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride
toothpaste
Clean between your teeth daily
Eat healthy foods and limit sugary beverages
See your dentist at least twice a year
Choptank Health accepts most insurance plans and has a sliding fee scale for eligible families without insurance. Don’t miss this opportunity to care for your child’s dental health!
It’s never too late to register your student for School-Based Health. For registration forms and more
information, contact your student’s health center or go to www.choptankhealth.org/schoolbased.

Communication Procedures
We value our home-school partnerships and want to be available to you, but during the student school day, administrator and counselor availability may be limited as we work with students and in classrooms. When calling during the school day, please let the secretary know if it is urgent. Otherwise, please know we may not be able to call you back until after dismissal. If you want to meet in person, please call to schedule an appointment. We do understand that sometimes urgent matters arise that can not be planned for, and we will always do our best to accommodate you.
Emailing School & District Staff
Spam filters are designed to identify emails that attackers or marketers use to send unwanted or dangerous content. They also throw out malware, malicious, and virus-infested emails and protect user security. Unfortunately, spam filtering is an inexact science that at times blocks legitimate messages.
Should you send an email to a staff member and not receive a reply within a reasonable amount of time (no more than 48 hours), please call the office.
