MTSS Lead Weekly Updates
Week of 1/12/2026
Winter Universal Screener Continues
Students in grades K-6 should complete the following:
- iReady Reading Diagnostic
- iReady Math Diagnostic
- iReady Literacy Tasks for grade level
- written expression (remember to enter scores in PowerApps-link found under quick links on On Target for Success homepage)
- screening for characteristics of dyslexia as outlined (Decision Making Crosswalk)
All students in grades 7-8 should complete the iReady Diagnostic for ELA and Math. Those enrolled in a 9-12 intervention course should complete the iReady Diagnostic for ELA or Math as aligned to the enrolled course. This ensures an updated personalized instruction path and allows schools to check progress towards typical and stretch growth.
Now Is the Time to Monitor Completion
Please be sure that as the lead you are monitoring iReady Diagnostic completion for students. You can use the iReady Diagnostic Status Report the next day. The following day the information will also be in the iReady Student Assessment Report in PowerBi.
Now is the time to "circle back" where students may have been absent or have had red or yellow rush flags. Remember that Grade 3 students need to have their data to be compliant for the Literacy Commitment next steps of meeting with parents of students who fall below the 65th percentile.
Home Literacy Reports
Schools will provide Home Literacy Reports, following administration of the universal reading screener, to K-3 students scoring below the 15th percentile and are recommended for 16th-40th percentile.
These reports provide reading proficiency guidance, reading activities to use at home, and information on specific reading interventions and supports being provided as outlined in TCA 49-1-905(d). Please be sure that the iReady Diagnostic Reports are sent home to parents along with this letter to inform parents of their student's scores. Keeping parents informed of their child's progress is extremely important when students are struggling.
If your school has completed all winter universal screening, you do not need to wait to send these home, and should plan to do so. Schools are highly encouraged to meet with these parents during the January parent conferences.
Enter your Written Expression Scores
Please enter your Written Expression Scores in the Written Expression PowerApp. The link is available on the homepage of the On Target for Success SharePoint. If for some reason you do not have access, please email RTI2@scsk12.org and we will get you set up. If you have questions on how to make entries, please join one of the office hours linked below.
Remember that 6th grade student scores are found in Vantage Learning WriteVue and you can work with your principal to determine the school point of contact for the platform. Because the score is a decimal, round up or down accordingly to transfer the score to the Written Expression PowerApp.

PowerSchool Reminders
Reading Horizons Course Code
Please update the roster to your course in PowerSchool as students get an ILPD or if they are exited from the ILPD. If you did not set up your course in the fall, please take time to get this completed as it helps ensure we have accurate rosters.

Once students are added using the course code (In PowerSchool use course code number, G25X26_RT64 (alternate G25X26 Dyslexia Intervention K-8) they will be in one class. Teachers can follow these steps (starting at step 5) to create classes. This is helpful to group kids together by classes or periods.

DYS coding should be entered into PowerSchool following the screening windows. Use the date of the decision and then the final day for students 5/21/2026 when asked for dates.
DYS01 coding is not used any longer effective spring 2024.
DYS02 coding indicates that the students were screened with additional screeners.
DYS03 coding indicates that the student is eligible for dyslexia-specific intervention as outlined on the TDOE CoD Decision Making Crosswalk https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/education/special-education/dys/URS_Decision_Making_Crosswalks_September_2024.pdf
DYS coding is not indicative of ILPD as it relates to screening only (not parental consent).
New MTSS Leads Monthly Meeting
January Topic-Data Team Meetings and the CSRS
This month our focus will be on getting the most out of data team meetings and tracking students on the CSRS. Data teams are more than a compliance measure, but more importantly are a time to bring educators together where they support the same group(s) of students. It is a powerful time where strategies that are working with students and improvement is observed, can be shared with others who also work with the same student. This can cut down on the "trial and error" time with students who may be considered hard to reach. It is also an excellent opportunity where the Intervention Provider can report back to Tier 1 teacher(s) where they can further incorporate practice opportunities to the student using small groups where it fits.
