Erin Wheeler, Special Education Teacher

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Ride my motorcycle, hangout with friends, sing karaoke, and enjoy time with my family.

Tell a little bit about your background.

I was born and raised in Chapin, SC. I graduated from Columbia College twice; in 2014 with my Bachelor's and again in 2017 with my Master's. I will graduate this December from Arkansas State University with an Ed. S. in Administration. I have taught for 11 years- I taught my first year at Saluda High School and ten years at SC Whitmore School.

What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I am a Special Education Teacher here at SCWS. What I enjoy most about my role is the wonderful

connections I make with my students. I have a passion for learning and advocacy.

What do you want the students to know about you?

I am your biggest cheerleader and I will be beside you to help every step of the way!

Kristen Jones, English/Language Arts Teacher

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, you’ll find me soaking up the sun outdoors, making memories with my family, or watching the latest binge-worthy series on Netflix.

Tell a little bit about your background.

I grew up in Conway, South Carolina, and graduated from Conway High School before earning my Bachelor of Arts in English from Coastal Carolina University. (Go Chants!) After spending a few years in the 9-to-5 world, I took on some substitute teaching roles in local schools and quickly discovered that education was where I truly belonged. That realization led me back to Coastal, where I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching. I'm now in my 12th year of teaching at SCWS, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!

What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m an English teacher at SCWS, and one of the most rewarding parts of my job is watching students take ownership of their learning journey. My favorite moments are when they realize their potentialβ€”that they can achieve their goals and accomplish whatever they set their minds to. It’s powerful, and I’m proud to be a part of it.

What do you want the students to know about you?

I want students to know that I am always here to support them. I strive to create a positive, welcoming environment where they feel comfortable asking for help. My goal is their success, and I’m committed to encouraging and guiding them every step of the way.
