WLWV SchoolBoard BriefsJanuary 12, 2022

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a public meeting on Monday, January 10. The following are important highlights from that meeting.

Superintendent Kathy Ludwig and WLWV staff thanked the School Board for their service to students and staff, reading an official proclamation in honor of School Board Recognition Month.

School Board Fills Remaining Budget Committee Vacancies

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board appointed Ginger Fitch to the Budget Committee to round out the five-member committee. The Budget Committee works with the School Board to review and approve the budget for each school. The Budget Committee's work begins in March.

School Board Adopts Resolution for Future Purchase and Sales Agreement of Oppenlander Property

The School Board approved a resolution authorizing the district to execute a Purchase and Sale Agreement between the district and City of West Linn for the Oppenlander Property. The property consists of approximately 10.08 acres of generally rectangular, gently sloping land with two storage buildings and developed sports fields.

The sale price for the property will be determined by an independent appraisal and is contingent upon the City of West Linn passing a bond measure to acquire the necessary funds. Interested community members can learn more about the City's bond process on their website.

Board Receives Annual IPM Report

District staff provided the Board with the Annual Report for Pesticide Applications as part of the district's Integrated Pest Management Plan during the Jan. 10 meeting. The district made a total of 14 herbicide applications during the 2021 calendar year.

Applications are only made when determined necessary after an evaluation by maintenance groundskeepers and the IPM Coordinator. Applications are made to reduce the spread of weeds and never for aesthetic purposes or for preventative purposes. The Maintenance Department also made five emergency applications to address wasps and yellow jackets at school sites that were in close proximity to students.

The district has worked to reduce herbicide applications for the past several years, including the purchasing of fence guards to place along district fencing where the majority of applications are needed. The district purchased additional fence guarding during 2021 and has now completed more than one mile of fencing across the district. Interested community members can learn more about how the district is reducing herbicide use by visiting the district website.
