Superintendent's Message
Hello LPOSD Families,
As we head into spring break, I hope you have the chance to enjoy some quality time with your children. It’s a wonderful opportunity to unplug, have fun together, and soak up some sunshine in our beautiful community! ☀️
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who participated in our recent student-led conferences. It was inspiring to watch our students take ownership of their learning, proudly sharing their accomplishments, areas where they’re working to improve, and the things they love most about school. Seeing them articulate both their strengths and challenges was a powerful reminder of the growth mindset we’re fostering. I’m confident our teachers will continue to provide the support and encouragement our students need to succeed every day.
This year’s Student Safety Summit also provided valuable insights for parents concerned about the impact of social media and cell phone usage. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who joined us to learn about these critical issues and to our local experts, educators, and volunteers who generously shared their knowledge to help us support our children and families. Together, we’re making a difference in protecting and guiding our students in today’s digital world.
Much Gratitude for your partnership, bwm
Dr. Becky Meyer, Superintendent

Washington's Cougar Community Connection (CCC) Makes a Big Impression
CCC captivated kids, delivering more than a dozen diverse workshops led by community partners: pottery, knitting, outdoor recreation, dance, theater, animal care, heavy machinery, fire trucks, art projects, woodworking, sports and much more. CCC built community connections by inviting professionals to teach students a new skill set. Thank you Panhandle Alliance for Education for supporting this event with a generous grant.
Science Minds Deliver Interactive Experiences at Science Circuit
Honors students hosted hands-on science labs and demonstrations for all LPOSD fifth and sixth graders. It's a great way to introduce young, inquisitive minds to the excitement of science, technology, engineering, math and medicine. The future truly looks bright! Thanks, Sandpoint High School.
Student-Led Conferences Connect Parents with Classrooms
Projects, Classroom Activities & Academic Excellence
Families and students connected in classrooms across the District during our annual Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). Students shared their achievements with excitement and pride. From the moment parents walked into their children's schools, they were embraced by staff and ushered into classrooms to sample, for instance, math problems and experience the lessons being taught every day. "What a tremendous opportunity for students to take responsibility for their learning. An especially BIG congratulations to Sandpoint Middle School and Clark Fork Jr-Sr HS for holding their first-ever SLCs," said Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer. At Sagle, each student received a "passport" and visited several locations around the school. Once completed, they deposit the passport in a bucket for a chance to win a gift card to Buckin' Beans or Evans Bros. "Our students have been so excited and proud to showcase their accomplishments this year!" said Sagle Principal Chris Davis.
Congratulations, Mat Warriors!
Sandpoint High School wrestlers epitomize the notion of “student athlete.” Congratulations to the boys wrestling team for taking home the 5A Winter Academic State Championship award! Winning on and off the mat. Pictured is the boys team and the girls team (who joined the boys to show support). This award is presented to the varsity team in each classification that achieves the highest cumulative grade point average. They posted a team average GPA of 3.687, the highest team GPA out of all four classifications. Go Bulldogs!
Hagan Scholarship Selects Tyburski
Scholarship season is underway and many seniors are applying for financial support to see them through their post-secondary journey.
Persistence pays off. Hard-working senior Bryce Tyburski received coveted news last month worth up to $60,000. He earned the highly competitive Hagan Scholarship, both a need- and merit-based award. In addition to covering things like tuition or room and board, it includes a paid study abroad opportunity and a Schwab brokerage account to learn “first-hand” how to invest in order to achieve financial security.
This scholarship, however, includes an uncommon requirement: Tyburski must work up to 240 hours during the spring or summer semesters, or some combination.
Tyburski studies hard in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, while also working after school at Winter Ridge Natural Foods to help support family expenses. Humble and affable, Tyburski’s quiet-spoken nature hides an ambitious career aspiration — to become an astrophysicist.
His second passion is Spanish, a language he gained appreciation for in Mary Imaz’s classes. “Since the first day of my Spanish I class, I’ve loved learning and speaking Spanish,” Tyburski wrote in a scholarship application.

Outstanding AcaDeca Team Wins 7th Straight State Title
For the seventh year in a row, the SHS Academic Decathlon team has won the state title and earned a berth to the national championship.
Students competed in seven subjective events (art, literature, music, social science, economics, math, science) and three subjective events (essay, speech, interview). Sandpoint swept gold, silver and bronze in most events, taking home a total of 30 gold, 32 silver and 20 bronze medals. All 18 competitors on Sandpoint's three state teams won at least one medal.
The overall high scorer in the Honors Division was Torin Haesle; Wyatt Lang was tops in the Scholastic Division; Bryce Landano took gold overall for the Varsity Division.
From here, the team needs to raise another $4,000 in the coming weeks to pay for the trip for all nine students who will compete at Nationals, called the "national nine" — Haesle, Evan Brubaker, Abby Eldore, Lang, Ellie Klippel, Keagan Cole, Sophia Sperry, Landano and Sophia Capodagli.
“We are hoping to finish in the top three at Nationals, which we have only done once before, but we feel like this ambitious goal is attainable and it is best to reach for the stars!” said team coach Becky Haag. If you would like to help the team fundraise, contact coach Haag at rebecca.haag@lposd.org for details.
Save the Date! June 9th!
The District is hosting a community groundbreaking ceremony at SHS to mark the beginning of construction of LPOSD's Career Technical Education Center of North Idaho at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 9. Celebrate Earth Day This Month
Earth Day is April 22! And Every Kid Healthy Week is April 21-25, a great time to get outside and get moving by walking or biking to school or around your neighborhood! April showers shouldn’t stop you from walking and biking this spring; umbrellas and raincoats can keep you dry. Here are some tips:
Motorists may have a more difficult time seeing pedestrians and bikers on rainy days. Be cautious when crossing at intersections and make eye contact with the driver to be sure they see you and stop before you cross.
If you need to step around a puddle, always look behind you for walking, biking, and driving traffic first.
Wear bright reflective clothing especially on these darker and rainy days so it is easier for drivers to see you.
