DESPITE THE GRINCH'S EFFORT, THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT THRIVES AT EHS
The season of giving!
For the 3rd year, the EHS senior class adopted a family for Christmas. The family that was adopted lives in an extremely rural area where daycare is unavailable and it is hard to make a decent living.
The EHS Student Council wrapped the gifts and all together, this year's class raised $1,130.23 to ensure that there will be plenty of gifts under the tree.
Some of the gifts included little cars and other toys, a blanket and water bottle, musical toys, a Walmart card and food and clothing for the entire family.
Additionally, during homeroom, teachers collected donations from students and staff and had to wrap it in a shoebox as a present. The Grinch (portrayed by one of the senior Student Council members), ran around the school, popping into classrooms to steal all of the presents.
At the end of it all though, something must have warmed the Grinch's heart, because all of the donations made it back to the family in need. What a great Christmas story!
PRINCIPAL ON THE SHELF AT ELIZABETH MIDDLE SCHOOL
A rough Friday for the elf at Elizabeth Middle School!
Principal Kimberly Runyan was hoping to close out the week on a nice and calm note before a well deserved break. Instead, dressed from head to toe as a Christmas elf, Runyan was locked in the trophy case and duct taped to the door.
It's so hard being an elf at a middle school during the holidays! But, what a dedicated elf, still holding her school radio in hand while being totally incapacitated. Eventually, she was able to get out of the trophy case and the grinch, who had a change of heart at EHS, stopped over at EMS to release Runyan from the wall so she could go back to doing her job.
Happy Holidays from Elizabeth Middle School!
ESD TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TURNS OLD JUNK INTO TREASURE
Turning trash into treasure!
This may look like a box truck full of junk and old bus parts, but for the ESD Transportation Department, this is of great value.
Transportation Director Tiara Noe says her department is partnering with McCandless Truck Center to purchase old parts of vehicles the school district no longer has. For years, there have been old parts sitting at the bus barn including tires, mufflers, hoses, rims and pretty much anything you would use to repair a bus.
McCandless Truck Center buys and sells those old parts. The partnership has already generated $30,000 in credits to the school district. Those credits will be used to repair our current buses including brake pads, seats and anything the department needs in the coming years.
Our buses get put through a lot during the school year and we are grateful for this ongoing partnership with McCandless!
NEW BUS RADIOS PROVIDE BETTER COMMUNICATION FOR DRIVERS AND ROUTE CHANGES
Can you hear me now?
The ESD Transportation Department is using brand new radios for the buses and small school district vehicles. All together there are 33 new radios that were installed around Fall Break.
Since that time, the difference they've made is clear. ESD Transportation Director Tiara Noe says the transmissions now come in so clear compared to before and that they are very user friendly.
Noe says her drivers are only dealing with one dead spot for the moment, compared to several of those spots before the new radios came in. She says on a recent football trip to Pagosa Springs, the bus barn could easily hear the driver despite the long distance. The radios are designed to cover the entire state of Colorado.
The last system was run on a single tower and the new radios use multiple cell phone towers. Now, ESD bus drivers can better communicate bus stops, route changes and crucial information that is needed for a more seamless transit.
Noe says it's great to also have better communication with the schools, where her staff can switch channels and talk to staff when needed.
Clear communication and smooth rides. That's what it's all about!
IMPRESSIVE SHOWS FROM EHS AND EMS WITH WINTER CONCERT SERIES
The performances included choir, band and orchestra concerts. Elizabeth Middle School Principal Kimberly Runyan says all of the shows were amazing and added that teachers and students came together and performed to a packed house each night.
Runyan says EMS and EHS combined shows and that it was great to see such unity on a night where everyone there supported each other as Cardinals with plenty of school spirit.
If you didn't get a chance to see it in last week's Good News Bulletin, watch the most recent Superintendent Monthly Review, where ESD Superintendent Dan Snowberger talked about all of the hard work and talent that went into pulling off the Winter Concert Series.
Thank you to everyone who watched the shows!
