Greetings Park Families,

We are back in full swing since the winter storm we had two weeks ago. We have a busy month planned with activities aligned with Black History month. Our students are also hard at work as we are beginning to start preparing for state testing later in the Spring. I want to remind you that attendance is extremely important for our students here at Richardson Park. We are evaluated based on our attendance and when students aren't in school they have a difficult time learning the material. Poor attendance also impacts students school choice applications as attendance is one of the key areas for a student's choice to be renewed. Please make sure your children are attending school regularly. This will benefit both the school and the students as we try to improve student learning.

Hemos vuelto a la carga después de la tormenta invernal que tuvimos hace dos semanas. Tenemos un mes muy ocupado con actividades relacionadas con el Mes de la Historia Afroamericana. Nuestros estudiantes también están trabajando arduamente, ya que estamos comenzando a prepararnos para los exámenes estatales que se realizarán más adelante en la primavera. Quiero recordarles que la asistencia es fundamental para nuestros estudiantes aquí en Richardson Park. Nos evalúan según nuestra asistencia y, cuando los estudiantes no asisten a la escuela, tienen dificultades para aprender el material. La mala asistencia también afecta las solicitudes de elección de escuela, ya que la asistencia es uno de los aspectos clave para renovar la elección de un estudiante. February is Love the Bus Month

February is Love the Bus Month. Since 2007, American School Bus Council (ASBC) has celebrated the school bus influence on learning. School bus staff are often the first smiling adults a child sees each morning and the last before they get home. They brave the weather to get our students safely where they need to be every school day, and are an important extension of the school day and learning.

Below are two documents that schools can use with their students and give them directly to bus staff or return to the transportation office.

Febrero es el Mes del Amor al Autobús

Febrero es el Mes del Amor al Autobús. Desde 2007, el Consejo Americano de Autobuses Escolares (ASBC) celebra la influencia del autobús escolar en el aprendizaje. El personal del autobús escolar suele ser el primer adulto sonriente que un niño ve cada mañana y el último antes de llegar a casa. Desafían el mal tiempo para llevar a nuestros estudiantes de forma segura a sus destinos cada día escolar y son una extensión importante de la jornada escolar y el aprendizaje.

A continuación, se presentan dos documentos que las escuelas pueden usar con sus estudiantes y entregarlos directamente al personal del autobús o devolverlos a la oficina de transporte.

NAEP Testing

On February 24th, our some of our 4th grade students will be participating in NAEP testing. Students are selected randomly to participate in the test. This test is used as a national measurement across the country. The test scores won't be released for 2 years after the students take the test. If your child has been selected to take this assessment, you will receive a letter that will be sent home. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to Mr. Rifenburg our Assistant Principal.

Prueba NAEP

El 24 de febrero, algunos de nuestros estudiantes de 4.º grado participarán en la prueba NAEP. Los estudiantes se seleccionan al azar para participar en la prueba. Esta prueba se utiliza como medición nacional en todo el país. Los resultados de la prueba no se publicarán hasta dos años después de que los estudiantes la presenten. After School Program

We will be starting our after school program for students in grades 3-5. This will be in preparation for the state test called Smarter Balanced that our students will be taking in the Spring. Teachers will be reaching out to you to let you know if your child has been selected to participate. There are limited seats available.

Programa Extraescolar

Comenzaremos nuestro programa extraescolar para estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º grado. Esto será como preparación para el examen estatal Smarter Balanced, que nuestros estudiantes presentarán en primavera. Los maestros se pondrán en contacto con usted para informarle si su hijo/a ha sido seleccionado/a para participar. Hay cupos limitados.

Parent Conferences

Parent conferences will be held on Thursday evening February12th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and Friday February 13th from 8:00am - 3:00pm. The conferences will be held for students who are struggling or in danger of not being promoted to the next grade. Teachers will be reaching out if a conference is needed.

Conferencias de Padres

Las conferencias de padres se llevarán a cabo el jueves 12 de febrero por la noche, de 16:00 a 19:00, y el viernes 13 de febrero, de 8:00 a 15:00. Estas conferencias se realizarán para estudiantes con dificultades o en riesgo de no pasar al siguiente grado. Los maestros se pondrán en contacto si es necesario.

Black Excellence Ball

Richardson Park's 3rd Annual Black Excellence Ball will be held this Thursday February 12th from 6:00pm - 8:00pm here at the school. Their will be food, games, small group sessions offered throughout the evening. Please come out and support this event.
