10.31.25 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
We hope your student had fun at school today as we recognized our 'frighteningly" good students at our monthly PAWS assembly. We talked about what responsibility at school looks like and shared that the November Character Strong attribute is Gratitude. I am sharing at home tips for talking about gratitude below.
As a reminder, students will not come to school on Tuesday. Gearity is a polling station and we will be holding elections in the gym all day. The teachers will be participating in professional development at the high school. Please note that school is typically cancelled for Fall elections due to high turnout but we usually have school for Spring primaries since the turnout is smaller.
Peek at the week!
Kindergarten:
Reading - Students are learning to listen carefully to details and identify key information in what they read or hear.
Math - Students are learning to count objects, recognize numbers, compare which groups are greater or smaller, and understand that numbers tell “how many.”
Parent tips for at home support: Ask questions while reading — “Who is this story about?” or “What did we learn?” Use math talk — Use words like greater than, less than, and equal to during playtime or chores.
Grade 1
Reading - students are learning to describe characters, settings, and major events in stories.
Math - Students are learning to represent and solve addition and subtraction problems, and understand patterns and relationships between numbers.
Parent tips for at home support: Have your child retell a favorite story—who was in it, what happened, and how it ended. Point out patterns in nature or around the house to strengthen early algebraic thinking.
Grade 2
Reading - Students are strengthening their informational reading skills by learning how to Identify the main topic and key details.
Math - Students are working on number sense and place value concepts by comparing two- and three-digit numbers using >, <, and =.
Parent tips for at home support: Have your child write or talk about something they know—like how to care for a pet or make a sandwich. Ask which number is greater when looking at prices, house numbers, or scores.
Grade 3
Reading - Students are working on understanding informational text structure and author’s purpose by distinguishing their own point of view from the authors and explaining how reasons and evidence support key points in a text.
Math - Students are exploring geometry and area concepts by recognizing area as an attribute of plane figures, and measuring area using square units.
Parent tips for at home support: Have your child explain why they think something happened in a story using details from the text. Measure rectangles around the house (like books or placemats) by counting tiles, blocks, or inches.
Grade 4
Reading - Students are focusing on reading and understanding informational texts by using details and evidence to explain what the text says and identifying main ideas and supporting details to summarize.
Math - Students are practicing multi-step problem solving and using patterns to understand equations and multiplying larger numbers using place value and strategies for accuracy.
Parent tips for at home support: Encourage your child to write a short paragraph explaining something they’ve learned recently (like an animal, place, or event). Practice multi-digit multiplication by estimating totals during shopping or cooking.
Grade 5
Reading - Students are focusing on informational text comprehension by determining the main idea and explaining how key details support it. The are also using text features like diagrams, charts, and headings to locate and understand information.
Math - Students are practicing fractions—understanding and applying fraction concepts and operations.
Parent tips for at home support: After reading nonfiction, have your student tell you the main idea and key details in their own words. Use cooking or measuring activities to practice adding, subtracting, or comparing fractions.
PTA Needs You: we met on Tuesday to plan the book fair so please take a moment to review the dates and consider signing up to volunteer. Book Fair runs 11/17 - 11/21 including Math & Literacy Night (11/19)! Families- we need your help to staff the book fair. Please sign up at the link.

I hope to share information in the next week or two on how to set up a digital wallet so your student does not need to bring money to school.
