Maverick Community News: 3/3/25 - 3/8/25 Maverick Community News: 3/3/25 - 3/8/25

Welcome to March

Good Afternoon Mav Nation,

We have made it to a new month. This is the last week of the 3rd 9 weeks. Please make sure to review your students grades in Skyward. The 3rd 9 weeks report card will also be a UIL Grade check. Students passing all their classes on the report card will be eligible the entire 4th 9 weeks.

As many of you have heard, MHS piloted a 2 lunch system this week. I'm sure you have heard some complaints from your students due to the change but I have always shared that the safety and security of your students is my number 1 priority.

We piloted this change for 3 reasons

  • Student Management concerns (Truancy and vaping in restrooms)
  • Proper monitoring of the building
  • Loss Instruction Time (5 - 10 mins loss daily in 5th period)

We will continue with the 2 lunch system. A few myths I want to address:

  • There are plenty of places to sit and additional seats were added before the change was made
  • The lunch lines are NOT long. They are actually shorter as the cafeteria staff were able to open more lines as they now have 20 minutes to prepare between lunches
  • Students have a longer lunch as we added 5 additional minutes to each lunch

As always, I thank you for your continued partnership and trust as we work together to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for your students.

A Big HOKA Hey Shoutout to AVID

Manvel High School celebrated Black History Month with an HBCU hallway walk. HBCU stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. AVID students created display tables for each college and prepared presentations with information about campus programs. Black-owned businesses were also represented with booths displaying their services. Teachers were able to bring their classes to "walk the hall" and learn new information.
