Home of the Central Bears
Greeting Families,
After a snowy weekend where we celebrated all the love in both Family Day and Valentines Day, we are excited to be back at school with fresh snow to build and enjoy on our yard.
A huge thank you to our SAC committee who earmarked funds to purchase some outdoor winter equipment to enjoy recesses. We purchased crazy carpets, snow block molds, scoops, additional shovels and some nerf balls.
We will gladly accept donations of older pots and pans, metal spoons or bowls that can be used to build on our yards. Thank you in advance.
February is Black History Month. In observance of Black History Month, many classes are engaging in various activities to celebrate and learn about the contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. Students are participating in discussions, reading books by Black authors, and creating projects that highlight significant historical figures and events.
We have been highlighting trailblazing black Canadians who have had impact on Canada in the areas of sports, human rights, the arts and politics. Students have been guessing who the famous portrait is as well as the impact they have made to Canadian history for a chance to win a prize.
Our grade 7 & 8 class hosted a Valentines dance on Friday, 14th. Lots of fun for all who attended. The YMCA is still popular!! Thank you Mr. Wood and Mr. Elliott (DJ) for all your organization.
Sports teams continue to represent here at CPS, with our ball hockey team enjoying their tournament 10th February. The team played three close games with many goals scored. Thank you to all the families that supported on this chilly day outdoors.
Senior Basketball tournament is this Friday, 21st February.
Intramural soccer just concluded with a playoff match that had high energy and great sportsmanship. Thank you to all educators who make this learning possible.
The Arts curriculum continues to shine at CPS with recent trips to the Grand Theatre to see productions of The Magic School Bus and The Gruffalo Child. Classes engaged in some hands on learning at Agnus Etherington Art Centre.
Thank you for your continued support in education,
The Central Team

Communication Regarding Bus Delays and Cancellations from Tri-Board Student Transportation
During the potential inclement weather months (roughly early November to early April), our transportation partner, Tri-Board Student Transportation Services, works closely with their school bus companies to determine if it is safe to offer school transportation on inclement weather days. School buses function differently than other vehicles, and sometimes, although it is safe for the average family vehicle to travel, it is not safe for a school bus to be on all, or some of, the roads on a route. Having to cancel school transportation is understandably disruptive to families, but Tri-Board always puts the safety of their 30,000-plus bus riders first and foremost in their decision-making.
To help make the winter season and bus cancellation days easier for students and families to manage, families should sign up for bus status alerts by creating an account in Tri-Board’s Student Portal. Families can add their student(s) to their account, so they are signed up to receive alerts for their specific bus and zone cancellations. Families can also follow Tri-Board on social media:
When all transportation is cancelled across the district, the notification is sent as a general notice from Tri-Board to everyone with an account. Tri-Board does their best to post this alert by 6:00 a.m.
The cancellation of school buses does not mean schools are closed. Should the rare need to close a school arise, the information will be communicated by the LDSB and the individual schools.
Learn more about inclement weather days, timing and duration of cancellations, and more on Tri-Board’s website.
