Irving Elementary Weekly Update
Week of January 26th
Principal Message
Irving Families -
Thank you for your flexibility and support during our e-learning day on Friday. Learning remotely requires a great deal of teamwork, and we truly appreciate the role families played in helping students log in, navigate technology, stay engaged, and complete their learning from home. Your patience and partnership made a meaningful difference, and we are grateful for your support. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to school and on Monday.
As a reminder, our toiletry drive will continue into next week. Donations may still be dropped off in the front office. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to helping stock our Little Free Pantry and support families in need within our community.
We also want to let families know that progress reports will be sent home on Friday. These reports provide an important update on your child’s learning and growth so far this school year.
As we move into February, we are also excited to share our plans for Black History Month at Irving. Recently, our administration met with members of the Black Parent Advisory Committee to develop meaningful ways for our school community to celebrate Black history, culture, and contributions.
Throughout the month, Irving will:
-
Spotlight Black students and families within our school community
-
Host a spirit week
-
Share daily announcements highlighting influential African Americans and their contributions
-
Host a school-wide assembly that will provide students with an engaging and meaningful learning experience connected to Black history and culture
We will begin our student and family spotlights during the first week of February and will continue to update and rotate the display throughout the month based on participation.
We are reaching out to families to see if they are interested in creating a Spotlight Student Poster. Families may also choose to share items or photos that are meaningful to their student, family, or culture. Irving will provide the poster and send it home to families who sign up to participate. While our final display is still under construction, it will look similar to the example shown below.
If you and your child are interested in participating, please complete the Google Form linked below.
Thank you for helping us celebrate, honor, and uplift our Irving community.
