Explore two opposing views on differentiation in everyday practice. Our goal is to critically examine the arguments, reflect on our own experiences, and think about what quality differentiation (an OTES 2.0 expectation for skilled teachers) can look like in our classrooms.

Every neurodivergent learner brings a unique mix of strengths, challenges, and needs—making “teaching to the middle” a losing game for everyone. In this episode, guest Barbara Pape of Digital Promise shares how the Learner Variability Navigator can help educators design instruction that celebrates differences, fosters belonging, and amplifies student voice in accommodations. The conversation challenges outdated policies and inspires a whole-child, strengths-based approach that turns learning variability into an asset rather than a barrier.

For more information, click here to view The Anxious Generation website. For more information, click here to view The Anxious Generation website.

The Anxious Generation is both a warning and a call to action: childhood has been fundamentally rewired by digital technologies in ways that undermine kids’ mental health, but parents, educators, and communities can make deliberate changes to restore balance.

The purpose of this book study is to explore the themes in The Anxious Generation and connect them to the unique needs of gifted students. Gifted learners often experience heightened sensitivities, asynchronous development, and social-emotional challenges that can make them especially vulnerable to the issues discussed in the book. By reflecting on these ideas, participants will consider how shifts in technology, culture, and socialization impact gifted students’ learning, mental health, and overall well-being.

This on-demand format allows you to engage with the material at your own pace while providing thoughtful responses that demonstrate professional reflection and growth.
