Dear Edison Family,

Last week we had a great treat with our pre-k Christmas special at the Junior High. Mrs. Clark, our pre-k teachers and our adorable pre-k students all did a fantastic job of getting us started right for the Christmas season.

We had a great week here at Edison; the Christmas spirit was live and well! We had several fun holiday activities for our students and staff. We ended the week with our class Christmas parties, which are always a staff and student favorite.

We are so proud of our Stop, Drop, and Read winners, Landry Allen and Fernanda Garcia! Thanks to our amazing Gainesville Fire Department, our first-grade winners enjoyed breakfast at the fire station and a fun fire truck ride to school. We are incredibly grateful for the Gainesville Fire Department for all they do for our campus through fire prevention, mentoring, and literacy programs—they are truly a valued part of our community.

Our First grade students had the opportunity to go see "Polar Express" at the state theatre. We are glade to be able to provide our students with fun and festive opportunities, that create memories for years to come.

We also had a special visit from the Gainesville Education Foundation, who stopped by with Santa, spreading Christmas joy and handing out candy canes to our students.

We also want to give a big shout-out to Odalys Juarez Sanchez, our district Christmas Card Contest Winner! We are so proud of her creativity and talent—congratulations, Odalys!

This is also a great time to curl up with your child and enjoy some holiday books together. When you read with your child, ask questions about the story—who the characters are, what happened first, or why something happened. These discussions help develop their oral language and comprehension skills, which are essential for strong early reading.

Please make sure to look at and share with your child our character trait of the week, empathy.

Finally, thank you to all of our families who joined us for our Friday Christmas parties—we had a wonderful time celebrating together!

We hope your upcoming break is filled with rest, joy, and quality time with loved ones. Thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership—you make all the difference.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a very happy new year!

Reoccurring reminders:

Traffic Reminder 🚗

To help keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently, please turn right when exiting the school during arrival and dismissal. This small change will help reduce congestion and ensure a smoother transition for all families. Thank you for your cooperation!

Also, when crossing the street or high traffic areas, please make sure to be crossed by a crossing guard at the cross walk, thank you.

Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.

Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.

Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.

Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick. If they are sick please leave a doctors note with the front office.

School policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...

Transportation Changes: ALL Transportation changes must be made no later that 12pm. Any changes after that time cannot be made. Thank you,

Stop, Drop, and Read! Stop, Drop, and Read!
