AROUND THE DISTRICT
KCUSD Recognized Nationally as a “District on the Rise”
Kings Canyon Unified has been recognized as a California “District on the Rise” by Education Scorecard as part of a national education study led by researchers from Harvard University, Stanford University, and Dartmouth College.
KCUSD was one of only 100 school districts nationwide — and just 11 in California — to earn this recognition for strong growth in both math and reading achievement.
The report highlighted districts that are making significant academic progress during a time when many schools across the country continue working to recover from pandemic-related learning loss. In recognizing these districts, the report stated they were highlighted “in the hope that they can serve as examples of what is possible.”
This recognition reflects the collective effort happening across our district every day. From classroom instruction and intervention support to student engagement, family partnerships, and schoolwide systems of support, our staff continue to make a meaningful difference for students.
Thank you to our teachers, classified staff, administrators, and support teams for the work you do every day to support student success. This recognition belongs to the entire KCUSD community.
KCUSD Staff Picnic Brings Employees Together to Celebrate Another Great School Year
Kings Canyon Unified employees from across the district recently came together for the annual KCUSD Staff Picnic — a fun-filled celebration marking the close of another successful school year.
The event brought together team members from schools and departments throughout the district for an afternoon filled with great food, laughter, music, and appreciation. Staff enjoyed a delicious lunch, exciting raffle prizes, bounce houses, and fun entertainment while spending time with colleagues and friends.
Events like the Staff Picnic are a reminder of the strong sense of community that makes KCUSD special. From classrooms to campuses to departments behind the scenes, every employee plays an important role in supporting students and families each day.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize this memorable event and to all KCUSD employees for another incredible year of service, dedication, and heart.
State Dashboard Spotlights KCUSD’s Accelerated Growth in ELA and Math
Kings Canyon Unified continues to stand out for strong student achievement, with newly displayed data on the California School Dashboard highlighting the district’s exceptional academic growth.
The California Department of Education recently added Student Growth Data to the Dashboard, offering a new way to view how much students improved over time based on previously reported state assessment results. According to the data, KCUSD is the only district of its size in Fresno County to earn an “Accelerated Growth” designation in both English Language Arts and Math.
The designation means KCUSD students performed 5 to 19.9 points above expected academic growth, reflecting the strong progress students are making across the district.
While the test score data itself is not new, the state’s updated Dashboard now places a greater focus on measuring student growth over time rather than only looking at a single year of achievement.
District leaders say the recognition reflects the continued hard work happening in classrooms and schools across KCUSD. Through strong instruction, targeted intervention and enrichment opportunities, and the support of families and staff, the district continues to create positive academic outcomes for students.
