2nd GradeNewsletter March 2-6

Hello 2nd Grade Families,

Our second graders continue to grow in so many wonderful ways! We are working on building independence, showing responsibility, and practicing kindness in our classrooms each day. It has been great to see students supporting one another and taking pride in their work.

As always, thank you for your partnership and support at home. We appreciate all you do to help your child have a successful and positive school year. We’re looking forward to another fantastic week together!

🌟 Math

Our second graders will be learning about financial literacy, including the difference between producers and consumers. We will also discuss saving and spending, and how making smart choices with money can help us reach our goals. Students will make real-world connections as they explore how money works!

📚 ELAR (English Language Arts & Reading)

In reading, students will be learning how to think more deeply about texts. They will discuss an author’s purpose for writing and explore how print and graphic features (such as headings, bold words, and pictures) help support the author’s message. Students will also practice responding to a variety of texts by using text evidence to support their thinking. These skills help build strong, thoughtful readers!

🗺️ Social Studies
This week we will be learning about different historical figures and how they showed great citizenship. We will be using this knowledge to create our own currency to honor their memory and the great things they have done for our community.

🔭 Science

In science, students will explore how living things depend on their environment to meet their basic needs. They will learn how environmental factors, such as the amount of rainfall, help plants and animals survive within an ecosystem. Students will also identify plant structures—roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds—and compare how these parts help plants grow and survive. We are excited for our young scientists to discover how living things interact with the world around them!

Have a great weekend!
