Bullitt County Schools Graduate Profile: What is a community contributor?

Being a contributor to your community sounds doesn't have to be difficult. You don't have to lead an organization or run for public office. To effectively contribute, you don't have to do a large community project or be in a position to impact change on a grand scale. Contributing to your community happens in many ways.

So how can students contribute to their community?

1. Figure out what you are interested in

When we find our interests and our passions, we are more likely to find joy in the things we do. At the same time, we think more critically when we are involved in things in which we are highly interested, helping us to think more critically about its impact and ways to improve or make that impact greater.

2. Join a club or other extracurricular

Many clubs offer a link to the community as they meet or through the work they do. Sometimes, this is the area that we overthink. For students, contributing to the community may be through the Academic Team or Archery Team. At first glance these may not appear to contribute to the community, but as a member of these teams, students are contributing to the school community as a whole as they compete and represent the school.

3. Participate in class discussions and be an active learner

Being part of a community means being an active listener and participant, sharing ideas and thoughts and helping each other to improve.

4. Volunteer your time to help local community organizations

Even students as young as elementary can volunteer in their community. Businesses and organizations are always interested in having volunteers to assist with programs or day-to-day tasks. Specialized organizations (like the Turnaround Center) seek out volunteers for specific needs they have as they assist individuals.

Care Solace

BCPS has partnered with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care to our community. To learn more about Care Solace and the services they can provide to individuals and families in need, check out the following link:
