Adult Services Newsletter
April 2025

Hello, May!
May is here—and with it, the final stretch of the school year! For parents, caregivers, and teachers, that often means packed schedules and a fast-paced month. But it also signals something exciting: it’s almost time for Summer Reading! This year’s theme, Create Your World, Design Your Story, invites us to embrace creativity, explore the arts, and connect as a community through the power of storytelling.
We’re especially looking forward to our 8-week adult summer reading experience, where each week is inspired by a color of the rainbow—paired with a theme of personal care and self-discovery. From the calm of blue to the growth of green, each week will offer challenges that encourage you to slow down, reflect, and find joy in creativity.
We’ll kick things off on the last day of school, Thursday, May 22nd at Dips, where adults and kids alike can register for summer reading, pick up their registration prize, and grab all the materials you’ll need to get started, including your reading tracker and weekly challenge guide.
Before summer officially begins, don’t miss all the great events happening in May.
An evening to remember with Julia Whelan.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our unforgettable evening with Julia Whelan! The event was truly something special, filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and a deep appreciation for stories and libraries. We were honored to welcome attendees not only from Danville and Hendricks County, but from across Indiana, and even beyond.
Julia’s warmth and authenticity resonated deeply with the audience. Her reflections on the importance of libraries were especially moving. The response has been incredible—from glowing comments to patrons sharing their photos with us.
We’re grateful to everyone who made the evening such a success, and especially to Julia for making the trip from California to spend time with our community. Once again, a BIG thank you to the Friends of the Library for their contribution toward this event. We appreciate your support.
If you attended and captured any photos, we’d love to include them in a post-event video. Please send them to CSalenda@dplindiana.org.
