Panther Tracks
July 31
Thank you, Panthers!
Thank you for making our Junior High Curriculum night a success! We look forward to sending out all of the presentations from the evening next week in a special Curriculum Night follow up!
Reminder: SEL Surveys Next Week
During the week of September 14th, we will administer an SEL screener to all students in grades 3-8. JH students will take the Youth Needs Screener and 3rd and 4th graders will take Waypoints.
The results will be used as one data point in a proactive process that supports students with organizational strategies, social skills, coping strategies, and other supports that help them fully engage in their learning. Should our team identify your child as needing additional support, you will be notified just as you would with academic interventions.
If you decide that you would like to have your child not participate in the screener, please email your child’s building principal, Jordan Master (jmaster@dist46.org) or Jessica McKenzie (jmckenzie@dist46.org) by Monday, September 14th.
📱 Technology Reminder
Just a friendly reminder that students should be mindful of their technology use throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches should not be used to send or receive text messages or phone calls during the school day.
We appreciate your help in reinforcing these expectations with your child and thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep students focused and engaged in learning!

Internet Safety Assembly on Wednesday, September 16
Wednesday, September 16, 2026, all Prairie Grove Junior High students in Grades 5–8 will participate in a youth internet safety presentation from 8:45–10:00 AM.
This presentation is being provided by the McHenry County Regional Office of Education and is designed to help students better understand the importance of making safe, responsible, and informed choices while using the internet and social media. The presentation is a student-focused version of “Keeping Our Kids Cyber Safe,” a resource from the McHenry County Regional Office of Education that we have previously shared with families in our weekly newsletter.
A virtual parent presentation is being provided via Zoom by Detective Richard Wistocki on Thursday, September 24th from 6:30-8:00 PM.
Our goal is to equip our students with practical information and strategies to help them navigate the online world safely and responsibly.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Master.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us keep our students safe, informed, and responsible both online and in our school community!
Hearing and Vision Screenings
In accordance with the Illinois Child Vision and Hearing Test Act (410 ILCS 205/), the [Illinois Department of Public Health] (IDPH) mandates that children at specific age and grade levels receive annual hearing and vision screenings.
Our school will begin conducting these screenings on September 8th for the following students:
Hearing Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.
Vision Screening: Preschool, Kindergarten, 2nd, and 8th grades.
Other Categories: All students in Special Education, students new to the district, or any student specifically referred by a teacher.
These screenings will be performed during the school day by our district nurse, Kelly Waters BSN, RN.
Vision screening does not replace a comprehensive eye exam, and children with a recent professional evaluation on file are exempt.
Next Steps & Exemptions
Screenings are provided free by an IDPH-certified technician, serving as a preliminary check rather than a full medical exam.
Results: You are notified only if your child does not pass, which includes recommendations for follow-up.
Opt-Outs: To exempt your child, submit a recent eye exam report or a signed religious objection to the school nurse prior to the date.
Don’t wait to schedule your physicals!
2026-2027 Athletes must have a current physical on file to participate in athletics. Schedule yours today so you’re ready!
Email healthoffice@dist46.org & athletics@dist46.org your current physical forms!
Please complete Agreement to Participate form - this only needs to be completed once a year for any athletics/clubs/activities, so fill it out now!
