Glenbard West Construction Update
March 30, 2026
The first stages of construction for Glenbard West’s addition are now underway. Last week, tree protection fencing was put up, and Bartlett Tree Experts began their pre-construction treatment for the trees that will remain. We relocated the picnic benches and began to store our memorial benches and other items from the area that we intend to save and return once construction is complete. This week, demolition and excavation will begin.
When students and staff return from Spring Break, school day traffic patterns will remain as they have all year. In the morning (7:30-8:00) and afternoon (2:30-3:15), Ellyn Road will continue to be reserved for buses. Students can be dropped off and picked up on Crescent, Lenox, and Lake. Contractors will park along the west side of Lake Road, which is now one-way southbound during school hours.
Work will soon begin on the Spalding Point Outdoor Learning Center just west of Memorial Field. This project will include three outdoor classrooms, native landscaping, and learning gardens to be maintained and studied by our students in the Horticulture program. Spalding Point is funded by a generous community donation and not part of our referendum funding.
In late April, students will help plant twenty-six trees on campus in collaboration with the Morton Arboretum’s Chicago Region Tree Initiative. These trees will be planted on the Ellyn and Crescent sides of the hill.
Construction of the addition will conclude in the summer of 2027, at which time landscaping on the back hill will commence. This will include a Japanese Garden, a Shakespeare Garden, a new water feature, and seating areas for students. The new classrooms, black box theater, and collaborative student commons will be ready for students at the start of the 2027-28 school year.
