Note from Principal - Morning Student Drop-Off Reminder
To help ensure the safety of all students during morning drop-off, students should be in one of two locations upon arrival at school:
Cafeteria: Students who are eating breakfast.
Playground: Students who are not eating breakfast or when finished with breakfast.
Students are no longer permitted on the east side of the building (back parking lot side) in the mornings unless they are accompanied and supervised by a parent. Once students finish breakfast, they must leave the cafeteria and walk directly to the playground. Students are also not permitted to walk around the building along 2nd Street West.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep all of our Panthers safe each morning!
Mrs. LaCasse
Picture Retakes
Picture Retakes will be on Tuesday, November 17th.
Vision Screening
Kalispell Lions will be doing vision screening on Monday, November 16th. Screening is done using the Plusoptix Screener which takes an instant scan of the student’s eye to determine the possible presence of eye health disorders. The screening is quick, non-invasive, and no physical contact is made with the student’s eye. If you wish, visit www.plusoptix.com to learn more about the scanner.
The information obtained from this vision screening is to be considered a preliminary procedure only and does not constitute a diagnosis of vision problems. Parents or guardians are responsible for arranging for a full eye exam with an eye care professional if the student is referred as a result of the vision screening. The Lions Club performing the screening, and the school where the screening is held, will not be held accountable for any errors of commission, omission, or misdiagnosis.
Students that wear glasses need to wear them the day of the screening. Screening will be done for all grades. If you do not want your child to have their vision checked please send a written note, and give it to the office by Friday, November 13th.
Thank you and please call our School Nurse with any questions or concerns and she will be happy to help.
Sincerely,
Peterson School

Volunteering/Field Trips
If you would like to chaperone a field trip this school year, you must complete a volunteer background screening before attending.
Tier 1: Name Search
- Complete a Name Search form, which allows us to conduct a name-based background check.
- This screening must be renewed every 3 years.
- Please check with the school office to see if your current screening is still valid or if you need to complete a new one.
- You can pick up a form at the office.
- This is our preferred option and may be required for some field trips, depending on the activity or destination.
- Processing typically takes 4 weeks to receive the results.
- It is done at the Flathead County Superintendent's Office - 290 North Main Street, Kalispell
- Call to make an appointment 406-758-5720.
- It cost $28 and volunteers must bring a valid photo ID at time of appointment
- If paying for the FBI Background Check causes a financial hardship, we are here to support you. Please contact the District HR office for assistance: (406)751-3444.
Chaperone Guidlines
1. Please be sure to complete the appropriate check process prior to volunteering as a chaperone. Ask the school’s office manager for verification of your role and next steps.
2. All chaperone’s must be approved by the school before the trip.
Chaperones must be approved in advance and participate with the class according to these guidelines. For the safety and accountability of all participants, parents, and guardians who have not been approved by the school may not meet the group at the trip location and serve as chaperones for their child or other participants.
3. Check in at the office before going on the field trip. Please bring your identification.
4. Be Present and Engaged
Stay with your assigned group of students at all times. Avoid using your phone unless necessary for communication or emergencies.
5. Set a Positive Example
Model respectful behavior, responsible behavior - students are watching and learning from you.
6. Follow the Schedule
Stick to the itinerary and help students stay on track with time and transitions.
7. Safety First
Keep a close eye on students. Be aware of your surroundings and report any concerns to a teacher immediately.
8. Let Teachers Lead
Instruction and discipline should come from the teacher. Support them by reinforcing expectations and helping students stay focused.
9. Transportation
If riding the bus, follow the same rules as students(e.g., remain seated, quiet voice, respect the driver). Students must ride the bus.
10. Photos
Please do not take or post photos of students unless you’ve received specific permission from the teacher.
11. Siblings
Siblings who are not a part of the class are not permitted to attend. Your full attention is needed to help monitor the students assigned to you that day.
We're grateful for your support in helping make field trips fun, safe, and meaningful for all students.
