Ready for Day One in Killeen ISD
Final Reminders for a Strong Start
First Day of School: Monday, August 17
Transportation Information
- Expect delays during the first few days as routes and routines settle in.
- Register for SMART Tag before the first day. Get bus updates, delay notifications and real-time trip information through the SMART Tag app.
- SMART Tag works with your student's ID badge. Once issued, students will scan their badge when boarding and exiting the bus.
With students returning to campus, please use extra caution around schools and bus stops. Slow down, watch for students and buses, and follow posted school-zone speed limits.
Stay Connected: Download the KISD App
Before school starts, download the free Killeen ISD mobile app and log in to Rooms using your Home Access Center (HAC) credentials. Rooms is now the primary way families and teachers communicate, giving you one place to message teachers, receive classroom updates and stay connected throughout the school year.
Know Before You Go: Student Expectations
Before the first day, take a few minutes to review these important reminders:
- Dress Code & Backpacks: Review the dress code and make sure your student's backpack meets the district's clear/mesh bag requirement.
- Personal Devices: Cell phones, smartwatches, AI-enabled glasses and headphones are not permitted during the school day.
- Water Bottles: No metal cups. Thermoses 4x6 and smaller are allowed.
A quick review now can help prevent surprises on the first day.
Be There on Day One
Make sure your student is in class on the first day of school! In accordance with state law, students who do not attend on the first day will be dropped from the system and must be re-enrolled. Avoid the extra steps and start the year strong by being there on Day One.
