Welcome Back, Middlebrook Families!

I hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful summer! As many of you know, I got married over the summer, and I’m excited to officially introduce myself to our students as Mrs. Picano! I know our students in grades 1–5 are already familiar with the new name after celebrating with me at the end of last school year. 😊 As we get ready to welcome everyone back, I’ll be visiting classrooms during the first few days of school to check in, reconnect, and see all those familiar faces. Behind the scenes, our amazing custodial team has been working hard to get the building ready for the start of another great school year. We also have some exciting changes ahead, including staff members moving to different grade levels and some new faces joining our Middlebrook family. I’ll share more information about these changes toward the middle of August, once everything is finalized.

As we get closer to the first day of school, it’s also a great time to start easing back into school routines. One of the best ways to do that is through reading! Even just a little reading each day can help students keep their skills fresh and make the transition back to school a little easier. Please be sure your child is participating in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge and taking advantage of the enrichment opportunities included below, many of which were shared at the end of last school year. In addition, our incoming 4th and 5th grade students are invited to sign up for the 1st Selectman’s Reading Challenge. Participants will be recognized at the beginning of the school year with a special visit from our First Selectman and a celebration with our staff.

Finally, you will receive a "Welcome Back to School" letter about a week before school starts detailing some important information for the upcoming school year. It will include information from your child's classroom teacher, updated information student form, family handbook, as well as other important information. Please be sure to complete all necessary paperwork before "Meet the Teacher", which will be held on Wednesday, August 26th. Grades K-2 families 1:00-1:30 PM and Grades 3-5 families 1:45-2:15 PM. This will create a seamless transition into the new school year.

Ms. Molloy and I hope you continue to enjoy these last weeks of summer, and we can’t wait to see everyone back at Middlebrook soon! Here’s to a fantastic new school year!

Best Regards,

Mrs. Picano, Principal
Ms. Molloy, Assistant Principal
