Dear Coyote Families,

It was another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary! On Monday, while your Coyotes were enjoying a day off from school, our teachers and staff engaged in professional learning tied to data and instruction. On Wednesday, many students participated in National Walk to School Week! We encourage our students and families to consider walking to school if you are able! Walking to school is great for the mind and body and sets students up for success! Also on Wednesday, students had a Character Counts Assembly in the MPR which featured a performance from Mrs. Serrano's Coyote Choir as well as a presentation on RESPONSIBILITY from our Westview Ambassadors. This tied in nicely with our Character focus this week, which was also on responsibility. Each day in the morning announcements, students heard messages about what it means to Act Responsibly throughout campus. Also this week, many fifth graders began preparing for student council elections (led by Mrs. Saunders) while many fourth graders prepared for Peace Patrol. Peace Patrol students are learning games and activities for our TK students to help with building friendship and social skills.

As we wrap up our Red Envelope Week fundraiser, I would like to express my gratitude for your support of the Canyon View Foundation. Through your support, so many programs are made possible to enrich the Canyon View experience for every student.

Let's Make it a GREAT week!

Warmly,

Erica Edmonston

Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

New Online Volunteer Application

As you may be aware, PUSD district has launched a new online volunteer application process designed to streamline the application experience. This important upgrade was shaped by your feedback on the volunteer experience, and we are grateful for your partnership in making it possible.

If you are not currently scheduled for a volunteer role, there is no need to submit the application now. We will keep families informed of upcoming opportunities, and you are always welcome to reach out to the school office if you’d like to learn more about ways to get involved in the future.

At this time, we ask that only families who already have a planned activity or program to volunteer for complete the application. This will allow us to process applications efficiently and ensure volunteers are ready when needed.

For more information you can visit this link. Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community.

Carmela Full of Wishes, written by Matt de la Peña, illustrated by Christian Robinson

When Carmela wakes up on her birthday, her wish has already come true--she's finally old enough to join her big brother as he does the family errands. Together, they travel through their neighborhood, past the crowded bus stop, the fenced-off repair shop, and the panadería, until they arrive at the Laundromat, where Carmela finds a lone dandelion growing in the pavement. But before she can blow its white fluff away, her brother tells her she has to make a wish. If only she can think of just the right wish to make….

Announcing our New School Site Council Community Representatives

Two parent/guardian positions on the Canyon View School Site Council were open for the 2025–26 school year. Two parents volunteered as nominees, and as the number of nominees matched the number of open positions, both nominees were elected by acclamation. Joining our School Site Council are FNU Suman and Usha Rao. Here are the introductory statements shared on their nomination forms:

  • Mrs. Suman: I have almost 10 years of teaching experience in my country India. So would be happy if I can use it here and help to the school in any way.
  • Usha Rao: Hello everyone! My name is Usha and I am a parent to a 2nd grader at CVES. I have been a room parent for two years and would love to be more involved as a member of the school site council. I am particularly interested in school policy and have experience shaping the wellness policy at the Chula Vista Elementary school district prior to being in Rancho Penasquitos. I look forward to helping our school improve on the school site council as well, thank you for your consideration!

Thank you both for your participation on this council and service to the CVES Community.
