🚨AFTERNOON CARLINE PROCEDURES ARE CHANGING🚨
To facilitate a faster carline, all fifth grade car riders will now exit through the elementary/blue carline. This also applies to younger students that have fifth grade siblings. Sixth through eighth grade students will still exit through the green carline. Any elementary students that have middle school-aged siblings or carpool with middle school students will continue to dismiss from the green carline. We will update 5th grade carline tag colors soon.
Additionally, please note that there are no left turns onto Sparkman Drive from the green carline, as noted on the sign at the parking lot exit. Left turns cause a backup of cars and create longer wait times for other students and families. Please turn right when leaving the parking lot.
Lastly, if your child is remaining after carline ends at 3:30, you will need to park in the back parking lot (where the blue carline is) and come to the door to sign your student out. If you are not able to pick up your student by 3:30 each day, after-school care options are available for both elementary and middle school students.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or the front office for assistance.
Other Morning and Afternoon Car Rider Line Updates
Morning Carline:
- Pull all the way forward to unload your child. Empty spaces in between cars = wasted time.
- If you have passed the blue dumpster, your student should exit the vehicle. Whether you are in the front or the back line, anyone past the dumpster should exit the car.
- Students should exit the car on the passenger side. This prevents students from having to cross in front of or behind vehicles. Many of our students are very small and difficult to see from inside a car. When they have to walk in between vehicles because they exit on the driver's side, it creates a dangerous situation for our students, staff, and other drivers. This is one of the most important procedures in the drop off process!!
- Once you are off Trailridge, students should be unbuckled, with their things in their laps, ready to get out of the car. We are working to help our students that are young and still need some help, but especially for older students, being ready to get out of the car when the car stops in the unload area is critical to move the line along.
- In the morning and the afternoon, please be mindful of blocking intersections and driveways as you wait in the carline. Neighborhood traffic is still flowing while we wait.
- Morning carline closes for K-8 students at 8:00. After 8:00, you will be directed to the front of the school. Please park and bring your student inside to check them in. Only Pre-K parents should enter the carline in the back of the school after 8:00.
- If you need support getting your child out of the car, please email your child's teacher to let them know you need a yellow star for your window. The yellow star will indicate to school staff working in the carline that you need help. Once your child is able to exit the vehicle independently, you can remove the yellow star from your front window.
Afternoon Carline:
- If you need a carline tag, email misty.suwarow@hsv-k12.org and tell her your child's name, teacher, and if they go through the Green or Blue line.
- Once the carline finishes, remaining students will be in the lobby inside the doors at the back of the school (the blue carline).
Skills to Practice with Young Students:
- Unbuckling the seatbelt or carseat independently.
- Opening and closing the car door independently.
- Exiting the car on the passenger side independently.
Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Parent Surveys
All students, elementary and middle, should now have received a letter with a specialized code to complete a parent survey for our Blue Ribbon School of Excellence recertification. There is a separate survey for elementary and middle school. This is a critical part of our recertification process. If you did not receive your letter and code, please let Dr. Coffey or Mr. Jones know so that we can send you a code. Our goal for both schools is 90% parent participation, respectively.
