Knights' NewsLo-Ellen Park Secondary School September 8-18,2020

Hello LEP Families!

We hope this newsletter finds you well. We are thrilled to have our students back, those learning in person and remotely. Thank you so much to our school community for making the return to school a smooth one.

Please know that we have been continually working to educate students about all of the measures that we must take, including hand sanitizing, wearing masks, and the importance of physical distancing, both on and off campus. Reinforcing these messages at home is greatly appreciated. With many new procedures in place and rules to follow, we are so grateful to be working with a school community that is doing its part to keep our community safe.

Welcome to our new and returning Knights! We're so happy to see you! Welcome to our new and returning Knights! We're so happy to see you!

Teacher Feature: Mr. M. Major Teacher Feature: Mr. M. Major

Mr. Major is new to Lo-Ellen Park this year. He is thrilled to be teaching Grade 8 in our French Immersion Program. Mr. Major previously taught at Levack PS and Nesbitt PS. He is originally from Fergus, a small town in southern Ontario, and moved to Sudbury with his fiance in 2017. Sports are a true passion of Mr. Major's and a big wish of his is for the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the cup. Welcome to LEP Mr. Major!

Technology Update Technology Update

Thank you to those students who have returned the Chromebooks lent to them last Spring. If your child still has a Chromebook, please send it school (with the charger) as soon as possible. Students can drop these off at the main office. Also, should students have their own laptops, Chromebooks and/or tablets they are encouraged to bring them to school for use during class time.

The VLE, Google Meets and Web Cams

This year, our staff are teaching and connecting with students in a variety of ways, including connecting with our remote learners via Google Meets and web cams.

Teachers are also using the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), which is a platform supported by the Ministry of Education. You can learn more about the VLE at https://www.d2l.com/k-12/ontario/.

The A Team!

Many thanks to our outstanding office staff, Brenda, Paula, Luisa and Francine, for everything they do to keep the wheels on the LEP bus. They have been instrumental in assisting families with technology needs, bus inquiries, and everything in between.

We are so lucky to have a great office team.

News from the Library

From our librarian, Ms. Ecclestone:

We have new Library Management Software in the library called Insignia. There are some nice new features on this software, please check it out!

You can search for books here:

rbs.insigniails.com/library/home

You can access the Gale online databases here:

https://www.galepages.com/ko_k12hs_d50

* the password for the Gale databases is rainbow

It's good for the students to know how to use these because it provides them with the tools to do the research without the need for physical distancing!

New Addition!

Our school campus will be peppered with 20 brand new picnic tables next week. These will provide more outdoor seating, and an opportunity for students to enjoy the great outdoors.
