Welcome Back Bayhawks!
We are excited to welcome our students and families back for another great school year!
This year, our focus in on ensuring all students meet high standards for student achievement and attendance . We also want every student to get connected by participating in at least one sport or club.
Please review these important expectations:
- Students will participate in bi-weekly grade checks to better understand and monitor their academic progress.
- Students must maintain strong attendance . Students with attendance below 90% will not be eligible for special events or extracurricular activities. Every day in school matters – consistent attendance supports both achievement and growth.
- Encourage your child to get involved in a sport, club, or activity . Check the school newsletter to help identify programs and opportunities for next year.
- An E Hall pass system will be implemented this school year. Parents will be able to monitor their child’s use of passes and stay informed about the time spent outside of the classroom. As a reminder parents can view period and daily attendance in Focus as well.
Thank you for your support and partnership. I look forward to working together to make this school year a great one for every student!

Our outdoor learning space has been approved by the BCPS Board of Ed!!!
Chesapeake High School would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Withrow for her unwavering dedication and perseverance in making our outdoor student seating area become a reality. For nearly two years, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes, collaborating with BCPS, Home Depot, contractors, and numerous community partners to move this project from an idea to a plan. Her determination, advocacy for students, and commitment to improving our school environment never wavered, even as she navigated countless meetings, approvals, and logistical challenges along the way. Thanks to her efforts, construction has already begun, with the space ready for student use during the second marking period. We also thank, Mr. Hardy from Outdoor Classic for volunteering to support a portion of the project to ensure the space is handicap accessible and enjoyable by all. This new outdoor area will provide students with a welcoming space to collaborate, connect, and enjoy the Chesapeake community. Your hard work will leave a lasting impact on Chesapeake for years to come! 🌟

Baltimore County’s Midge Suppression Program:
Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability (DEPS) is continuing its program of aerial midge suppression treatments along the county’s eastern shorelines to reduce nuisance populations of swarming midges. Trained, certified technicians conduct the spraying in accordance with MDE and MDA regulations and industry best practices, spraying a Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti)-based, non-toxic naturally-occurring larvicide from a low-flying helicopter during daylight hours. Attendance/Lateness/Early Dismissal Guidelines
Attendance: Regular school attendance has a direct impact on a student’s academic success. It is the key to high school graduation and college and career readiness. Research has proven that students who regularly attend school and are on time are more likely to read on grade level, less likely to drop out of school, and more likely to attend all classes that have been assigned to them. Our goal as a school this year is to have 93% attendance or higher!
If a student must be absent from school, the student must present an absence note to the Main Office within 3 days after returning to school. The note must include the student's name, grade level, date of absence, the reason for the absence and must be signed by a parent or guardian. If a student is absent for more than three consecutive days, a doctor/physician's note must also be presented. Notes can be directly uploaded into Focus by using the steps outlined in the Parent Guide below.
Early Dismissal: Requests for early dismissal should be brought to the Main Office before 7:45 AM. The notes must be signed by a parent/guardian with the time and date to be excused, a parent contact number, and the reason for the early dismissal. Unplanned early dismissals must be arranged by the nurse or the Main Office. Students must sign out in the Main Office before leaving school property. Anyone who signs the student out must have a valid ID and be on our list of those who have approval to pick up the student. Therefore, we must have correct contact information on file yearly.
Lateness: To maximize instructional time, it is important that students arrive on time to school. For a student to be counted as present for a full day, the student must be in attendance four hours or more of the school day. All students who arrive after 7:45 AM must sign in at the late check-in kiosk in the main lobby to pick up a late pass before being admitted to class. A signed note from a guardian explaining the reason for the lateness is required at the time of arrival in order for the lateness to be excused. More information on the Lateness procedure below.
Lateness Procedures
All students are expected to be in their classrooms by 7:45am. All late students, arriving to school or class after 7:45 AM, are expected to scan in at the Attendance Kiosk. The Attendance Kiosk is in the main entrance vestibule and will be operated by one of our secretaries. Students must have access to their BCPS Student ID barcode to scan in at the kiosk. All student have access to their ID badge via their FOCUS App. Steps for how to access your ID Badge via the Team BCPS Focus App linked below.
Attendance Kiosk Procedure:
· After the 7:45 AM bell, students arriving late, and students still in the halls and not on time for class, will be expected to sign-in at the Attendance Kiosk.
· The Kiosk will scan the student’s ID and mark them as tardy in Focus.
· The Kiosk will provide a “Tardy Slip” that includes the students name, ID, teacher, and room number. The “Tardy Slip” will serve as the students pass to class.
