Leveled Lockdowns
Over the next three months we will be conducting Leveled Lockdown drills so staff and students can practice appropriate responses. We’ll notify and teacher students the expectations on an upcoming episode of the KSNR News and will announce to staff and students that each event is a “drill” and state the drill level before it begins. Exact dates and times will not be shared so staff can practice realistic, in‑the‑moment responses; each drill will last only a few minutes.
Planned drills (may occur on varying days/times):
- Level 1 — Secure in Building (January): No immediate danger. Exterior doors locked; activities may continue with limited hallway movement.
- Level 2 — Secured in Classrooms (February): Movement and transitions paused; everyone stays in their classroom or the nearest safe room; pull‑outs and services are paused.
- Level 3 — Secured in Place (March): Immediate danger suspected. Interior doors locked, blinds drawn, lights off if possible, and students remain quietly in place.
What we expect from students:
- Remain calm, follow adult directions, and stay with or return to the nearest staff member if not with their class (e.g., in hallways or restrooms). Staff will lead and account for students.
In a real emergency, families will be contacted and updated via our usual communication channels (email and phone). If you have questions or concerns, please contact the school office.
Park and Walk Procedures
Thank you to those who are following our new arrival and dismissal changes with the Park and Walk option. We appreciate your cooperation with the trial modifications. In the next newsletter I will include a family survey so you can share feedback about your experience with the new model!
Understand Executive Function
Does your child need help with organization, time management, working memory or problem solving? The Parent Mentor Office is offering a presentation on Wed. January 28th at 6-7PM at SHS Media Center. Drew Kuzmickas will share information on executive function and how we can support our children who struggle in this area. Please RSVP to Teresa Karsnak at tkarsnak@scsmustangs.org or 440-573-2584 by Jan. 27th.

Cold Weather Reminder
We plan for all students to go outdoors for recess unless one of the specific medical or safety conditions below applies. Because of limited staffing, we cannot honor general requests for a child to remain indoors without a doctor’s note. If your child needs indoor accommodations for medical reasons, please provide documentation from a healthcare professional.
