Decatur community,
This past weekend saw our spring play in action, Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Witt's debut as our sponsors, and the classic Clue murder-mystery did not disappoint. It was a fun, puzzle of a show that gave us many pieces (wrench, candlestick, lead pipe,) to help us through to determine the outcome.
It always blows me away how many pieces to the puzzle, cogs in the machine, gears in the clock, notes in a melody, lines in a drawing (choose whichever analogy you would like) that there are in running a high school. To the simple observer, school is just about sitting in a desk and learning content, but the truth of the matter is that it is so much more.
There are so many different paths a student can take to walk across that stage at the end of their senior year, so many different choices, challenges, and accomplishments that are out there for each. Their success is the combination of the hard work and desire that they put in as individuals, the intense professionalism, lesson design, organization, and expectations of the entire staff, and the interest, support, and genuine love of their family and community.
The year is flying by, but we still have so much more to do. On we go!
SHOUTOUTS
Shoutout to Play sponsors Gina and Rachel Witt. In their inaugural year as sponsors of the spring play, the ladies poured hours upon hours into the show, making it as good as could be. There were spring break practices and late nights all this past week for all involved, and I am so impressed with efforts that they put in.
Shoutout to history teacher, Janee Davis. I was in her classroom this past week and the students were learning about the "Conspirators," the group of people not named John Wilkes Booth that were charged with the murder of President Lincoln. It was an awesome and fun learning experience for the students, and I was very impressed with all of the information the students were able to share. I taught this myself when I was a history teacher, and they were able to answer every question that I asked. Great work.
Shoutout to Ms. Davis, Mrs. Wendy Scott, and Mrs. Jillian Springer. This past week we were visited by Educate Kansas. They came to film some promotional footage and do a few interviews with staff and students. Educate Kansas is where teaching openings are posted across the state, and prospective employers have an opportunity to learn about the district on their website.
Shoutout to sophomore Michaela Wasson for also doing an interview for Educate Kansas. The group was very impressed by everything that she had to say, and they mentioned that we couldn't have had a more confident and impressive choice for a student interview.
Shoutout to each and every student that was a part of the production of Clue. The actors, the stage crew, the lights and sounds, all are pieces to a large puzzle that have to be in sync and on the same page at all times to make a play successful. All the practices after school, the late nights, and the extremely long week that is play week paid off in a great show. Congratulations!

GO BIG RED
Well, that's going to do it. If your NCAA bracket is anything like mine, you don't have many people left that you picked to win, and your favorite team is no longer in it.
If nothing else, at least 3 of 4 remaining teams have never won a championship, a small consolation and opportunity to add another piece to the puzzle of college basketball champions.
Until next week,
Jeremy Holloway
