Spring has Sprung!

As we settle into more spring like weather, it is refreshing to see our students enjoying the outdoors. With coats, hats and mittens sometimes coming off during recess play, we have collected quite a collection over recent weeks. Please take a look in the pictures below to see if you recognize any of your child's items.

Our lost and found shelf is located in the main lobby, next to our cafeteria. Thank you!

NYS Testing

Last week, our students in grades 3-5 participated in the NYS ELA Assessment over the course of two days. With A.W. Becker having approximately 95% of our students participating, we were very proud of the hard work and efforts of everyone.

Please be sure to congratulate your child on their excellent efforts!

Student Support

There is a lot going on in the world at the moment, including the invasion of Ukraine. We want to remind families and students that we have staff who are available to meet with any students who are struggling or need support, regardless of the concern. Students are welcome to speak with our school counselor, social worker, their teacher, or myself about their concerns and we encourage them to do so!

Additionally, KidsHealth.org has provided resources for parents to use when speaking with their children about what they are seeing in the news.

Please let us know if we can help!

Parking Lot Safety

As a reminder, please be cautious during the student drop off/pick up process. When students are departing or loading your car, please make every effort to have them exit/enter on the passenger side of the vehicle. We understand that some students and adults must use the driver's side. As such, please proceed with caution when driving around other cars in the outer lane.

Thank you for your attention to ensure everyone's safety.

COVID Guidance

Although we are all happy to see a returned sense of normalcy for our students, please note that we are still following COVID procedures per the Albany County Department of Health when students are symptomatic.

Please see the following for more information:

Take-Home COVID Tests Still Available at RCS: Families who want an at-home test kit can pick them up from the main office of any school building during school hours. These tests were still available as of 4/8/22. More information about these tests can be found here.

COVID-19 Lab Testing at RCS: As you know, RCS offers diagnostic symptomatic testing at RCS so that students and staff can return to school quicker after exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. This testing is also available to students and staff who are asymptomatic. Due to the decrease in requests for lab COVID testing through RCS, we offer lab testing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. Contact your student’s nurse to make an appointment. You can find instructions for registering for COVID-19 testing through RCS here.

COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation Protocol: You can find the most up-to-date COVID protocols on our website here. Please remember that if a student or staff member is sick, they should not come to school/work that day.
